Zack Snyderhas confirmed a very interesting theory put forth by a fan that linksMan of SteeltoJustice League. At this point, it’s no secret thatJustice Leaguedidn’t meet the expectations set for it by many fans, and it certainly didn’t accomplish what Warner Bros. wanted it to accomplish either. However, one thing that was accomplished, despite whatever feelings you may have about the way it was executed, is that Henry Cavill’s Superman was resurrected. Or, to be more accurate based on this new confirmation from Snyder, he was reborn.
This all started when a DC fan and Twitter user, who simply goes by Smalls, put forth a theory connectingMan of SteelandJustice League. The theory was posted to Vero, a social media site that Zack Snyder is quite active on. His theory has a lot to do with the deleted scene that featuresSupermanwalking through the Kryptonian ship after his resurrection/rebirth. This is where we see the famed black Superman suit in the background. Only, he never puts it on. He sees it and walks right by it. Smalls' theory suggests that this moment was intended to be much more than an Easter egg. Rather, he suggests it would serve as a meaningful callback to this line, said by Clark Kent’s father, inMan of Steel.
“All these changes you’re going through, one day, one day, you’re gonna think of them as a blessing, and when that day comes, you’re gonna have to make a choice: a choice of whether to stand proud in front of the human race or not.”
Basically, the idea is that Superman decided that he did want tostand proud in front of the human race. With that, he decided that his classic costume would be a better representation, so he leaves the black suit behind on the Kryptonian ship. Zack Snyder replied to the theory on Vero and confirmed that this was indeed the intention. Here’s what the director had to say about it.
“I think of course it’s that (what you said) and that now in one sense he has been born twice, once on Krypton once on Earth, and it is this reality that he now is starkly aware of as he moves through the ship.”
Justice Leaguemay be credited to Zack Snyder when it comes to who directed it, butDC fansknow it’s not so simple as that. Joss Whedon came in to do months of reshoots and retooling of the movie. Snyder had originally left the production due to a family tragedy, or so we thought. It recently came to light that Snyder was possibly fired before that came out. In any case, the movie isn’t truly his and fans have been calling for a Zack Snyder director’s cut of the movie ever since the theatrical version was released.
It doesn’t look like that’s ever going to happen, but even this little confirmation of this particular callback reveals just how different Zack Snyder’s vision forJustice Leaguelikely was from what we were given. And odds are, we’re never actually going to see his version. Still, this little confirmation is pretty cool for hardcore DC fans and fans of theDCEU.
