Zac Efronhas seen a few great scripts throughout his career, includingThe Greatest Showman,The Disaster Artist, andExtremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile. The 34-year-old actor has been in the spotlight for the better part of two decades, with his breakout performance coming inHigh School Musical, debuting on Disney Channel in 2006. Efron would follow up a year later with the sequel, breaking cable viewing records at the time with 17.5 million viewers.
Efron’s next project isThe Greatest Beer Run Ever, set to release in theaters and on AppleTV+. The film will see the actor join the Vietnam War while delivering beer to his childhood friends, with a writing team consisting of Brian Hayes Currie, Pete Jones, and Peter Farrelly. The actor recently spoke withDeadline, and according to Efron, the script for the film is “absolutely incredible.”

“This was a rare moment when you — I receive a lot of scripts to read these days and it’s pretty rare that you get through them in one sitting without being able to put them down. And I kept flipping back to the front just seeing that it was based on a true story and going, ‘This is absolutely incredible.’ There’s this flow to the writing and to the progression of the story that’s just really well paced and I don’t know, it’s gripping.”

He continues, saying he experienced something he never thought would be possible along his journey.
“Before you know it you’re on this journey, and you’re experiencing something that you never dreamed in a million years you’d get to be a part of. And I thought it was about something really powerful you know and the character of Chickie was just so likable and so, you know, had so much compassion and passion to accomplish his goal and to see his friends and to support them. So I mean I read it and just thought ‘This is too good to be true, sign me up.’
The Greatest Beer Run Ever Arrives This Month
The Greatest Beer Run Evershould be a fun adventure to join, as Efron embodies the character of Chickie Donohue in the film based on a true story. The official synopsis for the film reads: “A man’s story of leaving New York in 1967 to bring beer to his childhood buddies in the Army while they are fighting in Vietnam.”
