Today,TV Insiderspoke with Fox Entertainment chairman Gary Newman, who confirms that the network is in talks withMarvelfor anX-Menshow. Here’s what he had to say:.

“It’s in negotiations. We’re cautiously optimistic, we had a good meeting with them. That will not be on a fast track creatively. This is just the deal, now we have to find the creative.”

The site reports that, while 20th Century Fox owns the film rights, the comic rights still belong toMarvel, which is owned by Disney. A new live-action TV series will requireMarvel’s blessing, which has lead to “some delicate talks.” Gary Newman also added that he doesn’t think the show will be ready for the 2016-2017 TV season. WhileTV Insider’s report doesn’t reveal who will be involved with the show, a separte report fromThe Hollywood Reporterreveals that24’sEvan Katzand Manny Coto will executive produce and serve as showrunners.

J.D. PayneandPatrick McKay, who co-wrote the originalStar Trek 3script withRoberto Orci, are writing the pilot script. The writers will share a “created by” credit withEvan Katzand Manny Coto. It has yet to be confirmed which characters will be featured in the TV series, but an October reportrevealed that Fox was considering bringing in Quicksilver for the show.

It isn’t known if the network wantsEvan Peters, who played Quicksilver in last year’sX-Men: Days of Future Past, to reprise his role, or if they will bring in a different actor. That report also hinted that Fox is considering using a female lead for the show, and Jamie Madrox, a.k.a. Multiple Man, who was played byEric Danein 2006’sX-Men: The Last Stand. There is also speculation that the TV show may be based on Peter David’sX-Factorcomics, which may center on Madrox setting up a detective agency in Mutant Town.
