Last month,Gambitfans were given a bit of a scare when a report surfaced that actorChanning Tatummay be backing out of the project. Over the weekend, it was confirmed thatChanning Tatumhas actually finalized his deal and he is also set to appear in otherX-Menmovies as well. 20th Century Fox is now moving on to find the right actress to play the female lead character, whichDeadlinehas confirmed is Bella Donna Boudreaux. ActressesLéa Seydoux(Spectre),Rebecca Ferguson(Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation) andAbbey Lee(Mad Max: Fury Road) are all reportedly coming in to test for the coveted role next week.
In theMarvel comics, Bella Donna Boudreaux was the daughter of the New Orleans Assassins' Guild leader, whose first love was none other thanRemy LeBeau(Channing Tatum). LeBeau was a member of the Thieves Guild, and was set up with an arranged marriage to Bella Donna to unite both guilds, but Remy was forced to flee to New Orleans. Bella Donna eventually received her own super powers, producing blasts of plasma.
It isn’t known if any of the aforementioned actresses are the front runner for the role at this time, but last week’s report aboutChanning Tatumpossibly backing away fromGambitdid mention thatLéa Seydouxis one of the actresses testing for the female lead. There will undoubtedly be more actresses who test for the role, but these three names are the only ones who have been mentioned thus far. It isn’t known if there are plans for Bella Donna to appear alongsideGambitin otherX-Men universemovies.
Rupert Wyatt(Rise of the Planet of the Apes) is directingGambitfrom a script byJoshua Zetumer(RoboCop), with production scheduled to begin this fall. 20th Century Fox has already handed out an June 10, 2025 release date for thesuperhero movie, which will go up against Warner Bros.‘Live by Nightand Universal’sMonster High. A casting breakdown leaked last month that revealed a number of different roles that are being cast, but it isn’t immediately clear if they have any connection to comic book characters.
