Over the holidays, Ned (Bryan Cranston), an overprotective but loving dad and his family visit his daughter at Stanford, where he meets his biggest nightmare: her well-meaning but socially awkward Silicon Valley billionaire boyfriend, Laird (James Franco). A rivalry develops, and Ned’s panic level goes through the roof when he finds himself lost in this glamorous high-tech world and learns that Laird is about to pop the question.
Why Him?dares answer the question: Of All the guys his daughter could have chosen, why this giant scumbag? The movie is directed by John Hamburg. He made his directorial debut way back in 1998 with the popular crime comedySafe Men, starring Sam Rockwell, Steve Zahn, Paul Giamatti and Mark Ruffalo. WhileJonah Hillisn’t in the movie, he did come up with the story, working alongside John Hamburg and Ian Helfer, with those two writing the script. The movie is produced by Shawn Levy, Ben Stiller, Jonah Hill, and Dan Levine. And it promises to be quite the holiday diversion.
