Ben Affleckhas been doing press for his new thrillerThe Accountant, which hits theaters on October 14, and he has been dropping some big news about his highly-anticipatedBatmanreboot as well. Earlier today, we reported the movie will be calledThe Batman, and Time Warner CEOJeff Bewkessays the movie will be ready in a year and a half, teasing aSpring 2018 release date. It was also confirmed last month thatJoe Manganiellowill star as the primary villain Deathstroke. Today, we have details about whyBen Affleckdecided on Deathstroke for this adventure.

Ben Afflecksurprised many fans in August with a brief video from theJustice Leagueset that clearly showedDeathstrokein full costume, whileZack Snyderrecently shared another image, where he’s seen drawing storyboards for what appears to be a Deathstroke scene.Collidercaught up withBen Affleck, who revealed he thinks Deathstroke would “match up” nicely with Batman in this movie. Here’s what he had to say below.

“He’s a great villain because-I just had an instinctive feeling that he would match up with him well. You know, I’m a big admirer of that character as well, especially in theNew 52the way that they did Deathstroke, and I thought that it could work.”

Last week,Joe Manganiellotook to social media to unveil some of the Deathstroke comic books he was reading for research. Two of the titles were New 52 books, and givenBen Affleck’s comments in this new interview, it’s certainly possible that either this big screen version of Deathstroke is based on the New 52 comics, or that the story as a whole will be taken from the New 52 comics. No plot details have been unveiled at this time, butBen Affleckhas stated in the past that this movie will feature a story that is largely original, although there will be certain elements taken from the comics.

Ben Affleckis directing theBatman rebootfrom a script he co-wrote withGeoff Johns. There have been rumors that the movie begins with a massive prison break at Arkham Asylum, and that there will be several villains from the comic book appearing in this movie, but that hasn’t been confirmed quite yet. WithBen Affleckcontinuing to do press forThe Accountant, it’s possible we may hear much Batmanvery soon.
