Quentin Tarantinohas chosen his favorite Marvel Cinematic Universe movie. ThePulp Fictiondirector is a comic book movie fan, but he admits to slacking a bit over the past few years. With that being said, he’s going back to watch the four years of MCU movies and can already say he has a favorite out of the ones he has seen so far. Tarantino is currently preparing to release his highly anticipatedOnce Upon a Time in Hollywoodthis summer.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywoodhas been taking up a lot of Quentin Tarantino’s free time over the past few years. From developing and writing the script, shooting the movie, and then editing, the director hasn’t had much time for anything else. With that being said, he’s looking forward to seeingAvengers: Endgameand is going back to watch some of the last installments and discovering a new favorite. He explains.

“I haven’t been keeping up to date with them for, I guess, the last four years. I think the only comic book movies I saw last year at theaters wereWonder WomanandBlack Panther. But about a couple of weeks ago I started catching up with some of the Marvel movies so I could go seeEndgame. I just finishedCaptain America: Civil War, so next up isDoctor Strange… Actually, the last one I saw wasThor: Ragnarok. I loved it. It was my favorite one of the series sinceThe Avengers- drastically my favorite.”

Taika Waititi’sThor: Ragnarokis the movie that changed it all for the Thor character. Chris Hemsworth admits he was over playingThe God of Thunderafter the second installment, but he was reinvigorated working with Waititi on the collaborative set. Thor is a much different character these days and it all goes back toRagnarokand the work that went on to recreate the character.

Thor: Ragnarokis a bit of an outlier in theMCU, but it is incredibly well done and handles the humor along with the serious side of things very well. In other words, it’s almost a perfect comic book adaptation. There’s a reason why a director like Quentin Tarantino is gravitating towards it and it largely has to do with the changes Taika Waititi made and Marvels Studios' decision to trust his instincts.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywoodhits theaters next month, so Quentin Tarantino should have some time to see all the rest of his missing MCU installments while traveling to do press. One has to wonder ifThor: Ragnarokwill still be his favorite after he has seen everything else. We’ll have to make sure to ask him about it later on after the dust has settled. The interview with Tarantino was originally conducted byEmpire Magazine.
