The Marvel Cinematic Universe multiverse began to truly collapse thanks to the events of the first season of the Disney+ series,Loki. Since then, the likes of the animated seriesWhat If…?has introduced audiences to the idea of “variants” (alternate versions of popular characters from different universes) with the recent big-screen outing,Spider-Man: No Way Home, doubling down on this idea by bringing previous Peter Parkers Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire into the fray.
This multiversal chaos will seemingly get even worse in the upcoming Doctor Strange sequel,Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which finds The Master of the Mystic Arts traveling across various universes. Directed by Sam Raimi, written by Michael Waldron, and starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olsen, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Benedict Wong, Xochitl Gomez, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Rachel McAdams,Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madnesspicks up following the events ofSpider-Man: No Way Homeand the first season ofLoki. Dr. Stephen Strange, with the help of both old and new mystical allies, travels into the multiverse to face a mysterious new adversary. An adversary who happens to look very familiar…
