HBO found themselvesanother major hitlast year withWestworld, which gave viewers a sprawling adventure in a sci-fi setting, as opposed to fantasy/adventure, like onGame of Thrones. UnlikeGame of Thrones, there isn’t a lot of existing source material to draw on, so the creative process has been slow forWestworldseason 2, but we now have an update that gives us an idea of when we can expect to find out a little more about what is going on with Dolores, Bernard and the Man in Black, and what they’ll get up to. It looks like HBO plans to get the cameras rolling onWestworldseason 2 next month.
The news comes fromCaleb Williamsof Omega Underground, a site that has become a reliable source of production information in recent months. According to him,Westworldseason 2 is set to start filming on July 10, with the show aiming to shoot in both California and Utah. Here’s what he had to say about it.
“Production Update: #Westworld S2 begins filming July 10th in Utah and California”
Warning:spoilersahead forWestworld season 1. Given the way that things left off at the end of the first season, what with the massive reveal as to TheMan in Black’s true identity, and with Dr. Ford biting the dust in a brutal way, not to mention the band of robots who look to betaking over the main park, there are a lot of questions we want answered in the next season. Unfortunately, we are going to have to wait until 2018 for those answers. BecauseWestworldseason 1 was plagued with production delays, HBO is waiting until the entire new season is written and ready to go before shooting. They don’t want these delays to happen again and they aren’t going to rush it.
As one might expect, details on what we are going to see inWestworldseason 2 have largely been kept under wraps. Co-creator and Executive Producer Jonathan Nolan has been hard at work writing the new season and, thanks to a recent photo he shared on Reddit, we know what the first episode of the new season is going to be titled. Probably. The image came up when a user of theWestworldsubreddit asked if the many maze image posts could stop. Surprisingly, Nolan stepped in and simply replied with “Nope,” and then posted the image in question.
The photo features the front page of the script for episode 1 ofWestworldseason 2. The title is mostly visible, with texted reading, “Journey Into N”, only to be covered by a smiley face maze. Clearly a reference to the maze that was a huge part of the show’s first season. Even though part of the title is covered, since Ford’s new narrative is calledJourney Into Night, it seems all but certain that is going to be the title of the premiere episode whenWestworldseason 2 debuts next year. For now, you may check out the image for yourself below.
