Following an impressive ten-season run,The Goldbergswill conclude with tonight’s episode,Bev to the Future. Debuting in 2013,The Goldbergsis set in the 1980s and based on the childhood of its creator Adam F. Goldberg.Wendi McClendon-Coveyhas portrayed the Goldberg clan’s loving but often overbearing matriarch throughout the series' trajectory. The actress recently revealed that the cast was unaware that season 10 would be their last, so they shot their series finale without knowing what the future would hold. Audiences learned thatThe Goldbergswould not return for an 11th season this February.
In a recent interview withTVInsiderMcClendon-Covey opens up more about tonight’s finale and reflects on her run as Beverly Goldberg.

“Oh, the final day I wasn’t even working, but I came in just to see everybody. At that point, we didn’t know that it was gonna be our last. We’ve been on for ten seasons; it was gonna go one way or the other. We knew our time was coming to an end, so I went to take films of every single crevice of our set and take pictures and just see everybody and smell those smells just in case it was forever. And it turns out that it was forever. So I’m glad I did that, but wow, I’ve just never cried so many tears.”
WhenThe Goldbergspremiered, Beverly was a mother to a pre-teen and two teenagers. As the series concludes, Beverly is now a doting grandmother. McClendon-Covey says that the experience of playing a character unlike her was fun:
“I will never be able to tell anybody how much this past decade has meant to me, you know? How grateful I am for this experience. It was a blast playing Bev. I’m not a mom in real life, so I’m certainly never gonna be a Grandma, but I got to do that, and I got that out of my system; that was really fun.”

Although the ABC comedy has maintained a light-hearted tone for much of the series, it’s also hit some rough patches. Jeff Garlin (who portrayed Beverly’s husband Murray for much of the series' run),exitedThe Goldbergsduring its ninth seasonfollowing an HR investigation into complaints about his behavior. George Segal, who portrayed Beverly’s father Pops, passed away on July 11, 2025, duringThe Goldbergs’eighth season. McClendon-Covey considers working with the late veteran actor one of the highlights of her work on the series:
“Well, working with George Segal was such an honor, and being there to watch him fall in love with this show and to see him and Sean [Giambrone] working together was blissful for all of us because they were such a great pair. And being able to work with Judd Hirsch. [They’re both such] legends. I mean, how lucky were we? Those things I will always treasure, and I will always think back to how Sean, Hayley [Orrantia], and Troy [Gentile] just blew my mind on a daily basis with some of the things that they were asked to do on the fly.” She later adds: “I’m just so proud of those guys.”
Tonight’s final episode, according to McClendon-Covey, will show viewers where the characters could end up. The actress teases the episode, saying, “Bev goes to a high school reunion to see about an old boyfriend, and mayhem ensues as it always does with Beverly.” Wendi McClendon-Covey says she would return to the role of Beverly if ever asked. Who knows what the future will hold in a world overflowing with reboots, sequels, and revivals?
