A newV/H/Smovie is officially in the works at Shudder. Ahead of the premiere of the fifth installment of the series,V/H/S/99, it has been announced by Shudder that the horror streaming platform will also develop a sixth movie calledV/H/S/85. The movie is a continuation of Studio71’s hit found footage anthology franchise that began with the release of the originalV/H/Sin 2012.V/H/S/85will premiere on Shudder in 2023, though fans can first catchV/H/S/99on the streamer when it debuts on Oct. 20.

It has also been revealed that acclaimed filmmakers from the horror genre will be teaming up to contribute the various stories featured inV/H/S/85. This includesDavid Bruckner, whoseHellraiserreboot just premiered on Hulu, as well as Scott Derrickson, who made waves this year with the release ofThe Black Phone. They’ll be contributing segments alongside Gigi Saul Guerrero (Bingo Hell,Culture Shock), Natasha Kermani (Lucky), and Mike P. Nelson (Wrong Turn).

“Since its inception, the V/H/S franchise has been a showcase for both established and emerging horror filmmakers to terrify audiences with innovative takes on the found footage genre," Shudder General Manager Craig Engler said in a statement. “Following the success of last year’s hitV/H/S/94and this year’s upcomingV/H/S/99, we are totally stoked to take Shudder members back to 1985 with a wicked new collection of scares from some of the most radical horror directors working today.”

Bruckner, who marks his return to the franchise after his involvement in the original, added: “TheV/H/Sseries is a continued love letter to found footage nastiness and the mad variety of anthology horror. Having helmed a segment of the OG film, I’m beyond excited to be back behind the camera inV/H/S/85, alongside some of my very favorite voices in the genre.”

Shudder Continues to Develop V/H/S Movies

The first installment of the franchise to be developed as a collaboration between Shudder and Studio71 wasV/H/S/94. The film debuted to strong reviews from critics, scoring an impressive 90% on Rotten Tomatoes for a certified fresh rating. It also set the biggest premiere in Shudder history, scoring the most viewers for the horror streaming platform with its opening weekend. It continues to be a top performing title on Shudder nearly a year later.

Meanwhile, the franchise will haveV/H/S/99bridge the gap between94and85. The film debuted at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival and isset to premiere on Shudder on Aug 20, 2025. The film includes stories from Maggie Levin (Into the Dark: My Valentine), Johannes Roberts (Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City), Flying Lotus (Kuso), Tyler MacIntyre (Tragedy Girls), and Joseph & Vanessa Winter (Deadstream).V/H/S/99harkens back to the final punk rock analog days of VHS while taking one gian leap forward into the new millennium.
