Despite the fact that it does not feature any legacy characters from the original film,Twistersis set to include one noteworthy cameo to honor the legacy ofTwisterstarBill Paxton, who tragically passed away in 2017.
To celebrate the late star’s involvement in the original film, his 30-year-old son, James Paxton, is going to appear in the new film.
The forthcoming movie is a sequel to 1996’sTwisterandstars Daisy Edgar-Jones, Anthony Ramos, and Glen Powell. In an interview withEntertainment Weekly, James Paxton revealed that appearing in the sequel required a lot of contemplation:
“It’s really a cameo, so it’s an Easter egg for the fans of Dad and the original. I did this one for Dad. Initially, my agents sent me an audition, and I had to read for a role. Some time went by, and I didn’t really hear anything, so I had made peace with, ‘Oh, I guess maybe it’s not going to work out.’ And then, I heard from my team that they were offering a role.”
“It took me a little bit of time to process it, just given the context of my dad and his significance in the original and him not being here. It’s an emotional thing. It took a little time just to process it, just the magnitude of it. I wanted to do something that really honors his presence in this new chapter and really do something for him. And I realized there’s a lot of amazing people involved in this that I would love to get to know. So it ended up feeling like the right thing to do, to be representative of Dad there.”
InTwisters, James Paxton plays the minor role of a motel guest who runs away from a tornado. According to the actor, he enjoyed filming his scenes, as they actually simulated the environment to make the shots more authentic.

However, this will be a standalone sequel with no ties toTwisterwhatsoever. That said, casting James Paxton in a cameo to pay homage to Bill Paxton is pretty wonderful.
