Tron: Aresis the long-awaited sequel to the franchise brought by Disney, and they’ve now unveiled an official look at the film’s new Light Cycle. Starring Jared Leto as a computer program called Ares, the digital reality of Tron is leaking into the real world, making the upcoming sequel the first time Light Cycles will be roaming busy city streets. Familiar characters from the franchise return, while a new cast leads the highly-anticipated follow-up to the underratedTron: Legacyand the original 1982 film.

Straight from D23 Brazil (viaDiscussingFilm),Tron: Aresgets a cardboard standee, revealing the titular character going from the digital world to real life on a uniquely red Light Cycle. This coincides with the exciting, albeit scarce, plot details surrounding the long-gestating project. Instead of entirely taking place in the Tron video game, it seems the major theme this time around is the disappearing line between the material world and the digital one. TheTronfilms have always been more than just about racing Light Cycles, and it seemsTron: Aresdoubles as a metaphor for the technology-based world and the emergence of AI.

In addition to Leto, theTron: Arescast includesGreta Lee, Gillian Anderson, Cameron Monagan, and Evan Peters. It’s unclear if the film features further connections to previous installments, but Leto and Lee get top billing as brand-new characters in the decades-spanning franchise. Meanwhile, Nine Inch Nails, made up of Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, replace Daft Punk afterTron: Legacyto compose the musical score forTron: Ares.

Although the new look atTron: Aresis exciting,D23 Brazil attendees may get an even more favorable look at the upcoming sequel. Previously, the action-packed trailer was shown at D23 earlier this year, revealing the film’s new setting and Nine Inch Nails' new musical score. It remains to be seen if the footage will be released online by Disney today during their live-action film slate panel, but there is a good chance audiences will get an official trailer sooner rather than later. Until then, the sneak peek from the D23 Brazil floor will have to suffice for now.
