Yesterday,Thor: RagnarokdirectorTaika Waitititook a break in the production to answer questions from the fans during a Reddit AMA session. While there were some questions about his popular indie comedies such asWhat We Do In the Shadowsand this year’sHunt For the Wilderpeople, a majority of the questions were about hisMarvel Phase 3adventure. The filmmaker revealed some very interesting tidbits of information, such as how he essentially “ignored"ThorandThor: The Dark Worldwhile making this movie. Here’s what he
“I made an effort to ignore the fact there are otherThor films. I honestly know NOTHING outside of what I’m doing. I’m trying to ignore the rest of the universe and just make my own awesome movie.
Taika Waititialso directed a widely beloved short film that “explains” what happened to Thor while almost every other Marvel hero was battling each other inCaptain America: Civil War. The short featuredChris Hemsworthas Thor, withDaley Pearsonplaying Daryl Jacobson,Thor’s roommate. The director teased that fans may get to see Daryl again, and that there are parts of that short film that could be part of a “bigger thing.”
When asked about whether or not he’d like to continue making these shorts withThorand Daryl, the director had this to say.
“That would be a dream come true. I’d love to actually make a bunch of them.
While several of theThor franchisemainstays are returning inThor: Ragnarok, such asTom Hiddleston(Loki),Anthony Hopkins(Odin) andIdris Elba(Heimdall), this sequel will also bringThor’s fellow Avenger Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) into the fold, along with new cast members such asTessa Thompson(Valkyrie),Cate Blanchett(Hela),Karl Urban(Skurge) andJeff Goldblum(The Grandmaster). The director also teased that there is one other MCU character he wanted to showcase inThor: Ragnarok, but it couldn’t be worked out. Here’s what he had to say about bringing inJohn C. “I would have liked to getJohn C Reilly’s character in the film but there was no real way to pull it off.”
Thor: Ragnarokhas been said to follow a “cosmic road trip” that Thor and Hulk go on, which lead to some speculation that characters fromGuardians of the Galaxycould surface inThor: Ragnarok, or thatThorcould surface inGuardians of the Galaxy 2. Production is still under way onThor: Ragnarok, which has been set for release on June 08, 2025.
