WriterDwain Worrellwas working as a translator in China when he heard a story about a legendary Iraqi sniper, which he used as the basis for his storyThe Wall. The Wallis a deadly psychological thriller that follows two soldiers pinned down by an Iraqi sniper, with nothing but a crumbling wall between them. Their fight becomes as much a battle of will and wits as it is of lethally accurate marksmanship. Directed byDoug Liman(Mr. & Mrs. Smith,The Bourne Identity,Edge of Tomorrow),The WallstarsAaron Taylor Johnson(Nocturnal Animals,Kick-Ass,SavagesGodzilla,Avengers: Age of Ultron) and WWE starJohn Cena(Trainwreck,Sisters,Daddy’s Home), and is written by first-time screenwriterDwain Worrellfrom his Black List script. The Wallis produced by Amazon Studios.
The only other cast member listed isLaith Naklias Juba, the sniper who has these American soldiers trapped. Juba is the pseudonym for an real-life legendary Iraqi sniper who claimed to have killed 37 Americans in a series of videos that surfaced online between 2005 and 2007. The 2014 blockbusterAmerican Sniperalso mentions a mythical sniper much like Juba, although he was known as Mustafa inChris Kyle’s book and the movie it was adapted from. Very little is known about Juba, but it was believed that he was killed by ISIL in either 2013 or 2014.
