After over a quarter-century on the air, Fox’s hit animated showThe Simpsonswill be shaking things when it returns this fall forSeason 27. Earlier this week, showrunnerAl Jeansaid that the nefarious Sideshow Bob will get to kill Bart Simpson in the annualTreehouse of HorrorHalloween episode, but today we have an even moresurprising revelation.Al Jeansays that Homer and Marge Simpson will be getting legally separated in The Simpsons Season 27 premiere, and that Homer will fall for his pharmacist, voiced byGirlscreator/starLena Dunham.

“In the premiere, it’s discovered after all the years Homer has narcolepsy and it’s an incredible strain on the marriage. Homer and Marge legally separate, and Homer falls in love with his pharmacist, who’s voiced byLena Dunham. We’ll have cameos from the other women fromGirls.”

Al Jeanalso added thatSaturday Night Liveand newGhostbustersstarKate McKinnonwill play a homeless woman with an incredible voice in another episode, and that they will also have an episode based onRichard Linklater’s hit dramaBoyhood.

“We have an episode coming up where Lisa befriends a homeless woman who turns out to be an incredible singer. The woman’s voiced byKate McKinnon, but the singing is done by Natalie Maines. And we have an episode based on the filmBoyhood. It’s a flashback/flashforward about Bart. We go to various points in his life and his life to come which I think came out really well.”

The showrunner also teased details about two episodes he wrote himself in The Simpsons Season 27, one which is aChristmas episodeand another that examines the home planet of aliens Kang and Kodos.

“One is a Christmas show. I always feel sorry for people who have to work on Christmas eve or aren’t home. Homer stays at Moe’s too late, so Marge kicks him out of the house. He’s wandering Springfield meeting with the different lonely people on Christmas Eve, and he meetsNed Flanders, who starts to cry about losing Edna Krapappel. The other was a completely opposite tone. Jim (Burrows) said why don’t we do a show about Kang and Kodos home planet. We did every sci-fi (reference) we could.”

The Simpsonshas already been renewed through Season 28, which means the 2016-2017 season will fall during the Presidential election.Al Jeanadded that Homer Simpson will get to vote once again. While the showrunner isn’t sure who Homer will be voting for, he teased “whatever he wants it’s not going to happen.” What do you think about these new details regarding The Simpsons Season 27?
