Severancehas finally returned following a three-year hiatus, and fans of the series couldn’t be more relieved to see the boring white hallways of Lumon illuminated once again. Given the show left viewers with a slew of questions after that Season 1 finale, many are hoping they’ll receive some answers to those various cliffhangers. However, true to form, the show’s return only garnered more questions while actually answering very little. As a result, fan theories are running wild as many speculate about what’s really going on at Lumon.

With theories about Helly’s (Britt Lower) identity as an outie or an innie in question andthe show’s time frame seemingly off, there are a number of peculiar aspects of Season 2’s premiere that have left viewers reeling.Severancehas always been mysterious and weird, but the newest season leans into those notions even more. Following Ms. Cobel’s (Patricia Arquette) departure, Mr. Milchick (Tramell Tillman) now runs the Severed floor, which means there’s a new Deputy Manager named Miss Huang (Sarah Bock).

However, Miss Huang is no regular replacement. Instead, she’s literally a child, which has sparked a host of theories as to why Lumon would have a child working on the Severed floor. Even the other employees find it strange, although their queries are never indulged. Instead, any indication as to her real identity is simply ignored, which has only fanned the flames of fans’ theories.

And Why Is She So Young?

Severance - Season 2

During theSeveranceSeason 2 premiere, viewers were introduced to Miss Huang and learn she’s the new Deputy Manager. While nearly every severed employee questions her age, Mr. Milchick never addresses the queries or even acknowledges her youth. Given Lumon’s various unethical practices, Miss Huang’s addition to the Severed floor clearly means something, which has fans befuddled as to what her role could possibly mean.

Throughout Season 2’s premiere, she fulfills all the daily tasks that Mr. Milchick once did. However, unlike his work during the first season, viewers actually witness what she does on the computer. Rather than working with numbers like those in MDR, her tasks involve shapes, like circles and squares. She’s even seen playing a children’s water game that involves shooting circles through the water in order to land them around the hands of a Kier Eagan figure. However, nothing about those aspects was ever addressed or explained in any way.

Tom Holland Says There Was “A Lot of Animosity” on the Set of His Apple TV Thriller

“There was quite a lot of animosity on that set.”

Viewers learn Miss Huang was formerly a crossing guard before arriving at Lumon, which could indicate some sort of connection to Gemma/Ms. Casey (Dichen Lachman). It could be possible that, like Gemma, she died in a car accident and was somehow revived by Lumon. While nothing has yet to be confirmed about Gemma/Ms. Casey and the truth behind her existence at Lumon, it would seem that she and Miss Huang certainly have something in common regarding how they came to be at the company. However, Miss Huang’s young age could simply indicate she’s actually Gemma/Ms. Casey’s clone, whichopens up a whole can of worms.

Could Miss Huang Be Gemma/Ms. Casey’s Clone in ‘Severance’?

Is She Severed Like the Others?

The final moments of Season 2’s premiere ended with an image of Gemma/Ms. Casey who is seemingly part of a project known as Cold Harbor, which apparently directly pertains to the work Mark is doing in the MDR department. The percentage of his completed work matches the same percentage of the Cold Harbor project superimposed over an image of Gemma/Ms. Casey. Maybe the project is some sort of cloning experiment, and the more he progresses, the more Ms. Casey’s clone, aka Miss Huang, grows. Itmight be a bonkers theory, butSeveranceis a bonkers show that has continued to surprise audiences with how far it’s willing to go. It’s certainly something people on X (Twitter) seem to think is a real possibility.

Viewerswill remember that last season,Ms. Casey told Mark (Adam Scott) that her life has been 107 hours long. Such verbiage is strikingly different from the other severed employees. Rather than saying she’s been “awake” for that many hours, the word “life” is used, which is intentional and clearly meant to show that she’s different from the others. Furthermore, she’s sent back to the “testing floor,” a place the viewers have never seen, and essentially disappears. Given what the audience knows about Ms. Casey, questioning her connection to a brand-new character such as Miss Huang is warranted.

Lumon is a place full of secrets, deception, and cutting-edge technology, despite how it may appear on the Severed floor. It’s reasonable to assume Miss Huang is yet another Lumon experiment. Like Ms. Casey, it’s possible she’s not severed like the others but also doesn’t exist outside the Severed Floor. Throughout the episode, she adheres to Lumon’s rules and regulations as if she were born out of their mold. However, if she is severed, that raises an entirely new set of questions. Nevertheless, something funky is going on with Miss Huang, and if she existsoutside the confines of Lumon, that would be surprising.Severanceis currently streaming onApple TV+, and new episodes of the series premiere every Friday.
