One of the most recent hits on television, the medical dramaThe Pitt, has already beenrenewed for a second season, and while it’s part of a network that notoriously takes a long time to release new seasons of its most important TV shows, you won’t have to wait long to seeThe PittSeason 2. According to Casey Bloys, chairman and CEO ofHBOand Max Content, the second season of the acclaimed medical drama is planned for release in less than a year.
The Pitthasearned the acclaimof critics and audiences alike, and is undeniably one of the best series to come out in 2025. StarringNoah Wyle(best known for starring as John Carter inER), the series follows Dr. Robinavitch as he tries to deal with the daily mayhem in a constantly packed emergency room. It is told in real-time and each episode takes place over the course of an hour at the ER of the fictional Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Hospital.

Hollywood veteran and ‘ER’ alum Noah Wyle is back to saving lives and performing miracles in the critically acclaimed Max medical drama ‘The Pitt.’
In a conversation with Vulture, Bloys discussed the show and how it breaks the conventions of the streaming era by revisiting a format that was thought to be dead.The procedural dramabased on weekly episodes is something from the era of the 1990s and 2000s. Clearly, it’s working for Max, and Bloys and his team of creatives have decided to continue experimenting with this distinct type of release schedule and storytelling format. It has also allowed them to greenlight Season 2 with absolute confidence that viewers will tune in again. The secret? Releasing it in less than a year. More specifically, in January 2026:
“The other really important thing about this model, and is somewhat of a lost art — and I know you have written about this — is, the second season will premiere in January of 2026, a year later. This model of more episodes cuts down on the gap between seasons. On the platform, we have shows like House of the Dragon, The Last of Us, and White Lotus, which, because of how they’re made, can take two years to make.
What I love about something like The Pitt is, I can get 15 episodes in a year. That’s a really great addition to what we’re already doing on the platform. And I’d like to do more shows in this model.”

Today, viewers are used to binging their favorite shows in a single sitting, and the art of cliffhangers is seldom explored outside the jumps between seasons.The Pittdoes this on a weekly basis, expertly teasing out new elements in itssurprisingly realistic storylines. The model works, and Bloys will keep using this “balance” between the behemoths and the relatively small shows to keep bringing in viewers:
“They’re great shows and I’m thrilled we have them, but they’re a two-year turnaround, they’re seven or eight weeks of engagement — and I’ve got a 52-week schedule. I’ve got to keep people engaged throughout the year, so you have to look for other things that can do it. There’s got to be some balance.”
