HBO’sThe Penguintook the classic gangster formula of one man’s desperate rise to power and set it in a dark, violent Gotham City. After playing a supporting role and red herring in Matt Reeves’The Batman, Oz Cobb (played by an unrecognizable Colin Farrell) gotThe Sopranostreatment with an 8-episode limited series showcasing his growth into the despicable Batman villain fans love to hate. But, while Cobb is stealing the Falcones' and Marones' power and influence,Sofia Falcone is stealing the show.
Farrell’s transformative performance deserves endless praise, butCristin Milioti is the standout star ofThe Penguin. Playing the highly misunderstood daughter of Carmine Falcone, Sofia, Milioti delivers a terrifying yet sympathetic performance that has audiences eating out the palm of her hand. Following the final episode ofThe Penguin, fans are eager to see Cobb return (mainly for Batman to kick his ass and avenge Vic). But Sofia Falcone has her own devout fan base, andwe need to see her rejoinThe Batmanuniverse in the future.

The Penguin
Sofia Falcone Offers a Unique Perspective on the Crime Genre
Looking at the all-time great movies and shows of the genre, there’s a common throughline: they’re all directed by men, written by men, and focused on male characters. As a result (especially in the crime dramas of the past), female characters tend to be sidelined, underwritten, or simply there for male voyeurism. ShowrunnerLauren LeFranc introduced Sofia Falconeas the show’s main antagonist “to surround [Oz] with really interesting, complicated women.” LeFranc wanted to “respect and honor the genre” while also trying to “evolve it.”
Her plan worked, as Sofia Falcone has become the breakaway star inThe Penguin— especially after the highly rated fourth episode, “Cent’Anni.” Thefinal episode queued up Sofia to returnto the world ofThe Batman. Sitting in her cell in Arkham, Sofia is delivered a note from her half-sister, Selina Kyle (Zoë Kravitz inThe Batman). Her return hasn’t officially been confirmed yet,but there are several places Sofia could show up in the future.

How Sofia Falcone Could Return to ‘The Batman’ Universe
The most obvious and highly demanded way to bring back Sofia is through her own spin-off show. WithThe Penguinbecoming one of the highest-rated shows of all time (according to IMDb), we’re on tenterhooks for the next spin-off series fromThe Batman. Director and executive producer Matt Reeves has promised more spin-offs in the future. However, he hasn’t confirmed which characters they will focus on. Recently, Reeves did tease fans with the idea ofa Sofia Falcone spin-off, saying it’s something he’s thought about following the show’s release.“To see [audiences] connect to Sofia, of course, makes us think, ‘There’s more there,'“he said.
The letter from Selina Kyle has also led fans to believethe pair could be getting aThelma & Louise-style spin-off in the future.Kravitz’s return to the world ofThe Batmanhas been confirmed. However, little is known about how, when, or why she will come back, as the script forThe Batman: Part IIis a closely guarded secret.

Matt Reeves Reveals How The Penguin’s Final Moments Lead Into The Batman 2 & Beyond
Matt Reeves and Lauren LeFranc give a major update on The Batman Part II and The Penguin Season 2.
The Batman: Part IIis the least likely place for Sofia to make her sophomore appearance on screen. While details about the film are unknown, Reeves has teased thatPart IIwill dig further into the corruption plaguing Gotham City. Fans believe that The Court of Owls will be the mainantagonists inPart II, marking their live-action debut. With Oz Cobb, Barry Keoghan’s Joker, and another mystery villain confirmed to appear in the sequel, there is little room left for Sofia Falcone. The Batman: Part IIreleases in theaters on August 21, 2025.StreamThe PenguinonMax.
