The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggscrashed Shudder’s servers when it premiered last summer, and in a few weeks, it’s coming back to the service as a weekly TV series. Set to premiere in March, the new series will be in a format similar to last year’s 24-hour movie marathon, with each episode consisting of a double feature rather than a marathon of 13 straight movies. Briggs will be personally picking out a variety of horror and thriller titles, bringing along some special guests to the Texas trailer park along the way. Beginning on March 29, the show will live stream new episodes at 9 p.m. ET for nine weeks, concluding on May 24. Each episode will then be available on demand for viewers to watch at a later date.

The series was announced last year in the wake of the summer’s 24-hour marathon, along with two additional holiday specials, but an official release date wasn’t revealed. Now, fans can be happy to know the show’s premiere is just weeks away.
The first of last year’s holiday specials was a Thanksgiving show, airing in November. CalledThe Dinners of Death, the special presented showings ofThe Texas Chain Saw Massacre,Blood Rage,The Hills Have Eyes, andDead or Alive. Briggs then made every horror fan’s Christmas season a tad more jolly with a festive special forThe Last Drive-In, aptly calledA Very Joe Bob Christmas. That marathon consisted of fourPhantasmmovies, skipping the second and going up to the fifth. Like the original 24-hour marathon, these holiday specials are currently available tostreamon Shudder.
Briggs began his career as a television host by working as a guest host for the The Movie Channel’sDrive-In Theater. Because he was so well-received by viewers, Briggs was made the permanent host of the show, which then became calledJoe Bob’s Drive-In Theater. After achieving high ratings and running for a decade, concluding in 1994. That same year, Briggs went to TNT to hostMonsterVision, which became even more successful. The series ended its run in 2000, and horror fans have been desperately missing Briggs on television ever since. Needless to say, giving Briggs a new weekly show has been a long time coming.
Shudder’sThe Last Drive-Inseries will premiere on the service on Friday, March 29, at 9 p.m. ET. It will run for nine consecutive weeks, and if there are as many people watching the series as there were for last year’s marathons, it’s likely there will be more seasons to come.
