The Killer: Why David Fincher’s Upcoming Thriller Could Be the Best Movie of the Year
Could David Fincher’s upcoming movie be his masterpiece?
The Killer Is Now ‘Certified Fresh’ With 87% On Rotten Tomatoes
The Killerhas been met with mountains of praise since it debuted, withMovieWeb’s own Julian Romanapplauding Fassbender for his performance as the titular assassin.
“Fassbender is magnetic in a riveting performance. The Killer says almost nothing in the first act, but he addresses the audience like an author writing a memoir. There’s a reason and strategy for every move he makes. Deviating from the plan leads to mistakes. He’s a creature of habit but not inflexible. The Killer is an abstract thinker capable of making quick decisions. He’s forced to improvise when careful preparation explodes into chaos, but is surprisingly caught off guard by the drastic repercussions.”
The Killeris now ‘certified fresh’on the review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes with a score of 87%, with the consensus declaring that the movie finds director David Fincher “on firm footing” with the action thriller proving to be “a perfect match for leading man Michael Fassbender.”
Alexander Harrison ofScreen Rantmeanwhile felt thatThe Killerwill become even more beloved over time.
“My instinct is that appreciation for The Killer will grow with time, as we get used the muted emotional tenor we didn’t expect from a Fincher movie.”
Empire Magazine’s John Nugent awardsThe Killera rating of 4/5 and again heaps praise on Michael Fassbender’s cold-blooded central performance.
“A riveting revenge riot, with gobsmacking levels of film craft, and a performance from Michael Fassbender to make your blood run cold. It’s not quite top-tier Fincher, but it comes damn close.”
The Killeris now showing in theaters as part of a limited release and is scheduled to begin streaming on Netflix on July 29, 2025.
