The trailer for anupcoming thrillerfilm from XYZ Films titledThe Parkhas been released. The Parkwas written and directed by Shal Ngo, with the film’s cast consisting of Chloe Guidry, Nhedrick Jabier, and Carmina Garay. The producer on the film is Natalie Metzger, p.g.a, while Ryan Chanatry, Nick Borenstein, and Matt Miller are all executive producers. The information found in this article concerning the new film comes courtesy ofBloody Disgusting.

“The Parktells the story of a mysterious virus that starts killing all adults, leaving society to be governed by children living on borrowed time. After the adult population is wiped out, rival kids battle for control of an abandoned theme park. Danger lurks around every corner, and they must do whatever it takes to survive their hellish Neverland.”

The premise is more than a little reminiscent ofLord of the Fliesby William Golding, which was adapted to film in 1963 and 1990, orThe Butterfly Revolutionby William Butler (adapted asSummer Camp Nightmarein 1987). Two pieces of assigned reading have made hundreds of children and teens lose faith in humanity over the years (or at least severely question it).

Besides the novels mentioned above and the movies based on them, there have been several other works about young people becomingisolated and having to recreate civilization, often reverting to their base instincts in the process. Some television examples include Netflix’sThe Society, Prime Video’sThe Wilds, and FX Networks’Yellowjackets.

The trailer forThe Park, which you can watch for yourself here, depicts the children eschewing the punk-like, post-apocalypse fashion of theMad Maxfranchise, which had a more optimistic version of kids recreating civilization inMad Max Beyond Thunderdome. Instead, the children inThe Parkfavor creepy animal masks that would look right at home inThe Purgeor the 2019 version ofPet Sematary. The trailer also emphasizes the feeling of tribalism between the survivors.

At separate points, characters are heard saying, “there are two kinds of people. Us, and then there’s them,” in addition to “she ain’t us” (another victim of the plague seems to be proper grammatical structuring). Could this indicate thatThe Parkwill be in the vein ofWerewolves Within? A movie that, underneath its fun werewolf whodunnit exterior, was all about how divided the people in society have become.

Filming took place in an actual amusement park, albeit one that has since been closed down. The Parkwas filmed in a real-life park, Six Flags New Orleans, which closed its doors in the wake of Hurricane Katrina back in 2005 and never reopened. Six Flags New Orleans has also served as a filming location for several different movies, includingProject Power, Reminiscence,Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters, andDawn of the Planet of the Apes.

The Parkis scheduled for release on Mar. 2.
