Back in October, Warner Bros. unveiled their slate of DC Comicssuperhero movies, which didn’t include a stand alone adventure forSupermanstarringHenry Cavill. The actor will reprise his role as theMan of Steelin next year’sBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justicebefore appearing inJustice League Part 1andJustice League Part 2. But it isn’t known if we’ll ever get a stand aloneSupermansequel with the actor in the lead. With the inclusion ofBen Affleck’s Batman inBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, some fans are wondering how large a roleSupermaneven has in this next DC outing.Henry CavilltellsEntertainment Weeklythat the movie is not even a sequel to 2013’sMan of Steel, something we’ve heard expressed many times before.
“As far as the individual character is concerned, this is not aSupermansequel. It’s more of an introduction toBatman, an opening toJustice League, and an expansion of the world that was created inMan of Steel.”
The Warner Bros./DC Comics slate is currently set through the year 2020, with the studio debuting two movies each year from 2016 to 2020. That doesn’t leave a ton of room for additional entries. ButHenry Cavillis confident that there is still plenty of time to make moreSupermansolo outings, which may happen, but only after this “expansive universe” comes together.
“There’s plenty of time for individualSupermansequels. He’s a tough character to tell. People like the darker vigilante. I think it speaks to the human psyche more easily rather than the god-like being that we can’t really understand. Once we have a more expansive universe we can delve more into the character of Superman and hopefully tell more stories.”
It isn’t known if Warner Bros. is currently developing a true sequel toMan of Steel, or if directorZack Snyderand writerDavid S. Goyerwill even come back for a follow-up. Do you thinkSupermanshould get his own sequel between now and the year 2020? Or are you content with waiting until the DC movie universe unfolds over the next 5 years for a sequel. If a new Superman movie goes into production in the last half of this decade, with a 2021 release date set,Henry Cavillwill still only be 37 years of age, not even close toBen Affleck’s current age of 42.
