Like many of the rest of you Stephen King fans out there, one of the upcoming King projects I’m looking forward to the most isThe Fault in Our StarsandThe New Mutantsdirector Josh Boone’sThe Standadaptation over at CBS All Access. The 10-episode take on King’s most beloved novel is heading closer towards production and today we have word on just who might be starring in the limited series. It turns out the powers that be behind the scenes are looking to cast James Marsden, Amber Heard, Odessa Young, Henry Zaga, and Oscar winners Whoopi Goldberg and Greg Kinnear.
As we breakdown who these actors are set to play in this new series below, I’m also going to go ahead and compare the roles to their respective actors from directorMick Garris' 1994 The Standminiseries over on ABC to try and keep things straight. Sound good? Okay, then, here we go.WestworldandX-MenstarJames Marsdenwill play the role of (what is arguably the main character of the series) Stu Redman, who was played byForrest GumpandSnake Eyesactor Gary Sinise in the ABC miniseries. Next,AquamanandAll the Boys Love Mandy Laneactress Amber Heard will play Nadine Cross, “a private school teacher and virgin who believes she has a unique destiny to be by Randall Flagg’s side.” Laura San Giacomo played Nadine in the original miniseries.
From there, it’s said thatGhostandJumpin Jack FlashactressWhoopi Goldbergwill play prophet of God, Mother Abagail, who Ruby Dee portrayed in the miniseries, with Greg Kinnear playing Glen Bateman, a professor who joins Stu on his journey. Ray Walston played Glen in the ABC miniseries. Joining them in the cast will beAssassination Nationstar Odessa Young as Frannie Goldsmith, a pregnant woman who ends up falling in love with Stu. Molly Ringwald performed Frannie (let’s hope they update that name) in the miniseries. And finally,The New Mutantsstar Henry Zaga will play young, deaf-mute, Nick Andros, who was initially played byParks and Recreationsstar Rob Lowe in the miniseries.
Okay, that looks like everyone, for the time being, moving on. As a fan of theStephen Kingsource novel and Mick Garris’s 1994 miniseries, I can say that there are still a handful of significant roles to hand out in the coming weeks such as Lloyd Henreid, Harold Lauder, Trashcan Man, Larry Underwood, Tom Cullen, and of course, the Devil Man himself, Randall Flagg. CBS All Access’s take on Stephen King’sThe Standis gearing up to start pre-production, and that means we should be getting more and more casting news throughout the next few weeks. Boone will evidently be directing the entire 10-episode limited series from scripts written by himself andSEAL Teamwriter Ben Cavell. On top of that, Boone and Cavell will also serve as the show’s executive producers along with Roy Lee, Jimmy Miller, and
Richard P. Rubinstein. Stephen King’s son Owen King will produce the series with Miri Yoon and Will Weiske serving as co-executive producers. This story comes to us from Collider.
