Star Wars: Episode VIIIis in its fourth week of production. And the cast finally arrived inDubrovnik, Croatiayesterday for an on-location shoot happening along some of the city’s streets. Thus far, everything has been walled off. And there is no confirmation as to who is filming in the country this weekend. But a new rumor has emerged thatBilly Dee Williams, akaLando Calrissian, may be on the scene and that Dubrovnik is standing in forHan Solo’s home world of Corellia.
Of course, none of this has been confirmed. And Billy Dee Williams was not part of the official cast announced last month by Disney and LucasFilm. An earlier report indicated that a souvenir shop in Dubrovnik, which has already been seen in plenty of photos and video, was being used as a stand-in forMaz Kanata’s new Castle and/or Cantina. Is it possible that Maz has taken up residency on Corellia?
New set video and more photos have arrived from set. The video doesn’t show too much, but some speculate that the black cloaked figure flying through the air is the victim of a mighty force-push. But the person responsible for this act of passive violence cannot be seen, as the set has been completely closed off and is being heavily guarded.
A number of individuals have been seen walking to and from the set, wrapped in black cloaks. Though, these differ from the ones seen in the video, and appear to be covering up costumes. One individual appears to be dressed as a Stormtrooper.Making Star Warshas this quote from a local who was near the set while filming took place, and they also hint that Lando Calrissian will reemerge and that what we’re seeing in these images and video is actually the never-before-seen on screen planet of Corellia.
“Our friend, photographer Nikša Duper of CROPIX, snapped this a while ago, prior to a costumed cast procession descending toward the Banje beach, in the vicinity of the Dubrovnik Excelsior Hotel… Looks interesting, indeed, as the crew has obviously exited the Old City nucleus for the sake of today’s shooting! And for the end, an intriguing speculation that popped up as a tidbit among us, Croato-Americans affiliated with the assistant Dubrovnik film crew, but allegedly circulating online for a while as well: as Episode VIII should start immediately subsequent to Episode VII’s Skellig Michael encounter and shortly following Han Solo’s demise. Could a rumored Lando Calrissian’s appearance signify that the Dubrovnik scenery actually represents Solo’s home world of Corelia?!”
It was previously rumored that the scenes being shot in Dubrovnik would includeBenicio Del Toroas an as yet unidentified character along withCarrie FisherasGeneral Leia. Earlier reports claimed thatDaisy Ridley’sReyandMark Hamill’sLuke Skywalkerwould also be present. But it was stated this past week thatDaisy Ridleywill not be participating in these shoots.
