Yes,Star Wars Episode VIIIis still more than a year away. But weStar Warsfans love information, and one piece of information that we have all been hoping to get for quite some time now is the title forRian Johnson’s follow up toThe Force Awakens. As much as we all love her,Daisy Ridleybroke the news recently that we are still going to have to wait a while to find out the title forStar Wars: Episode VIII.
Ridley, who of course played Rey inThe Force Awakensand is reprising her role inEpisode VIII, recently appeared on an episode of theMy Dad Wrote a Pornopodcast. During the course of the interview, the subject of the as-of-yet to be revealed title forStar Wars 8came up. While she didn’t even give us a hint as to what it could be, she did give us a rough timeline, and it isn’t encouraging for impatient fans. Here is what she had to say.

“I heard a title, but I don’t know if it’s going to be that. I really don’t know much about anything. I heard the title a long time ago before we started filming, and so I feel some things have slightly tweaked during production. It’s going to be a while before it’s released I imagine.”
So yeah. “A while” is a pretty rough timeline, but it absolutely doesn’t mean it will be soon. Disney and Lucasfilm revealed the title forThe Force Awakensmore than a year out from the release, but that was a very different situation. That was the firstStar Wars moviethe studio was putting out after the Disney purchase, and the marketing campaign had to be very intense and ahead of things to make the public aware and get fans on board. Now that they have the world’s attention again, it appears their marketing strategy for futureStar Warsmovies is changing.

There have been some rumored titles forEpisode VIII, and it is possible that the titleRidleysays she heard was one of those titles. A few of the rumored titles that were floating around includedTale of the Jedi Temple,The Order of the Dark SideandFall of the Resistance. Being that we still don’t really have any solid story details aboutEpisode VIII, we can’t even begin to guess how right or wrong those titles actually are.
Filming has wrapped onStar Wars Episode VIII, and directorRian Johnsonis currently hard at work editing the movie. A rough cut of the movie is supposedly already close to done, or may already be done, asJohn Williamsstated recently that he will begin scoringEpisode VIIIshortly. With the process already so far along and the release date still more than a year away, that will give Disney and Lucasfilm plenty of time to do reshoots and tighten up the movie, should they decide that is necessary. Given that most of the studio’s recent, big movies, includingRogue One: A Star Wars Story, have had reshoots, we would expect that to be the case.
DuringStar WarsCelebration last month, many expected that Lucasfilm would release the title forEpisode VIII, but that didn’t come to pass. Really, there wasn’t much big news to speak of on the movie side of things to come to light during this year’s event. Right now, it seems like Disney is putting all of their effort into marketingRogue One, and making sure that the firstStar Warsspinoff movie goes well. So, the title forEpisode VIIIwill have to wait for a little (or maybe a lot) longer.Rogue One: A Star Wars Storyis set to hit theaters on December 16 of this year, andStar Wars Episode VIIIis scheduled to be released on July 26, 2025.
