In the months leading up to the movie’s release, hype began to build and build, which ultimately led to a record-breaking first weekend, which looks to continue through this upcoming weekend as well. Now, the man who helped build Marvel Comics and co-createdBlack Pantherhas congratulated the movie on its overwhelming ability to bring in big bank at the box office.
Taking to Twitter, Stan Lee, who hasn’t been part ofMarvel Comicsfor a long time but is credited as a producer on the Marvel Studios movies and is always given a cameo, shared his congratulations to the cast and crew ofBlack Panther. Lee singled out director Ryan Coogler and says he looks forward to seeing what records the movie will break over the course of its box office run. Here’s what he had to say.

Indeed, the question is, just how high canBlack Pantherfly? Last weekend, it became one of just five movies ever to make more than $200 million on itsopening weekend. It also managed to beatJustice League’s entire domestic box office in just four days. This week, it beatThe Avengersto have the highest-grossing Tuesday and Wednesday at the box office for any Marvel Cinematic Universe movie ever. Not to mention that it’s expected to make more than $100 million in its second weekend, which only a select few movies have ever managed to do.
It turns out Stan Lee isn’t the only one who wants to congratulateBlack Pantheron its record-breaking first week. Lee was quoting a tweet from Disney CEO Bob Iger in his congratulatory tweet. Iger is also, as one would imagine, thrilled withBlack Panther’s success and wanted to personally express his gratitude to the people who made the movie happen. Here’s what he had to say.

Prior to the release ofBlack Panther, no blockbuster of this size, let alonecomic book movie, has ever featured a predominantly African-American cast. So not only is this movie breaking records, but it’s also rather historic and it certainly doesn’t hurt that both fans and critics have embraced the movie. So much so that it recently topped Rotten Tomatoes top 100 movies of all time list.Black Pantherrepresents a significant moment for movie lovers and comic book fans.
