Will We Ever See ‘Spy 2’?

Despite being one of the best movies in the respective repertoires of Statham, McCarthy, and Feig,Spystill has not had a sequel. While the perfect idea waspitched by a fan during the 2024 Olympics, director Paul Feig recently revealed toMovieWeb’s own George Edelmanthat, currently, there is nothing in the works. Meaning we may never again hear of the wonderfully bizarre feats of action achieved by Statham’s superspy, Rick Ford. He once appeared convincingly in front of congress as Barack Obama, just for your information.

“I don’t know. I mean, of all my movies, that’s probably the one that would make most sense to do another one of. I’m not a big sequel chaser, you know, even though we just did one, I love doing original stuff, and it takes so long to make a movie. The Housemaid was so much fun because I never worked with that cast before, and that book was so different, and the genre is much darker than I normally do, and there’s something great about that. So, if anything, part of me avoids sequels, just because I don’t want it to take me away from something that might be new and exciting.”
