Following the Hollywood premiere of Disney’s live-actionSnow Whiteremake, the first reactions appearing online have been quite shocking – because they are mostly positive. In a strong piece of support for the old adage of judging a movie by the actual movie and not either previews, trailers, or behind-the-scenes dramas and complaints. While there are still some small niggles, the main theme of the early reactions is thatSnow Whitecomes in at the same level as Disney’s other live-action remakes.

Even as the scaled-back premiere was happening, there were still controversies overshadowing the film. Stars Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot are still the subject of intense scrutiny over their supposed “feud” and opposing opinions on the Israel-Gaza war, andlittle people protested at the premiereabout the film’s decision to replace real actors with dwarfism with CGI versions of the film’s seven miners. So what has been said about the movie now that some people have actually seen it?

‘Snow White’ Star Slams Disney’s “Undermining” Decision to “Scale Back” Premiere Amid Controversy

The controversy surrounding ‘Snow White’s premiere continues as one of the movie’s stars shares their annoyance.

Skyler Shuler ofDisinsiderwas more than happy with the end result, suggesting that it could even surpass many other Disney remakes. She said:

Rachel Zegler as Snow White

“Listen, I was worried, but let me tell you Snow White is PURE DISNEY MAGIC! This will end up being a lot of people’s favorite live-action remake…if you enjoyed Aladdin or Cinderella, you’ll be happy.”

Someone else who found plenty to like about the film was Paul Klein ofFilmhounds. However, the praise did come with a small aside about that “baffling” dwarf decision. He wrote, “I may regret saying this, but Snow White is solid. I really enjoyed the musical numbers, particularly the opening one and the Queen’s evil bop. Zegler was great in the lead role, and Gadot was fun. It’s really the CGI dwarfs that let the film down. The choice is baffling.”

‘Snow White’ Reactions Have Been Mostly Positive

The same was said by several other critics, who allpraised Zegler’s “outstanding” performance, Gadot’s “fun” turn as the Evil Queen, and the “gorgeous” production and costumes. However, as you would expect, there were some who really did not find anything endearing about this classic fairytale for modern times.Future of the Force’s Carl Kaka wrote:

“While Gal Gadot is great as the evil Queen, Snow White isn’t a great remake of the animated classic. Rachel Zegler is a poor Snow White, the changes to the story and lyrics are awful, some special effects are not that special and the film didn’t land for me. A huge shame.”

It is clear that very few Disney live-action movies are going to pass with completely positive reviews, and considering the rocky journeySnow Whitehas had to make it to screens, the first reactions are probably a lot better than anyone expected. However, the full reaction from critics will be seen when the embargo is lifted later this week, and then the film will run the gauntlet of review bombing once audiences are finally given the chance to share their opinions when the film is released on March 21.
