Prime Videocontinues to get into the supernatural and strange. Following the release ofOuter Range, the streaming service has unveiled its next science fiction series,Night Sky. The trailer can be viewed below.
Night SkystarsSissy Spacek(1976’sCarrie,Homecoming) andJ.K. Simmons(Invincible,Being the Ricardos) as the elderly couple, Irene and Franklin York, who hold an incredible secret on their property. We see Franklin pushing Irene in a wheelchair late at night and open a secret door that leads, according to a homemade sign, “to the stars." The end of the tunnel can only be described as a teleporter, which takes the couple to a strange base on a desolate alien planet! From the trailer, the couple seems to use the secret as their own private getaway when needed, keeping their little discovery from their neighbors and even their own granddaughter.
While the neighbors get suspicious of the couples’ late-night getaways, Irene grows more and more curious. Then one day, a stranger played by Chai Hansen (The 100,The New Legends of Monkey) is discovered in the alien base, and tensions begin to build. Irene, a retired teacher, continues to grow more and more curious about all these puzzles. This gives Franklin a reason to be concerned for her safety. But as Irene’s continues to investigate and discover, Franklin is right behind her.

Starring alongside Spacek and Simmons inNight Skyare Kiah McKirnan (Mare of Easttown) as Denise, Julieta Zylberberg (Impuros) as Stella, Rocío Hernández (Separadas) as Toni, and Adam Bartley (Curb Your Enthusiasm) as Byron. Holden Miller (The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore) is credited as creator and co-executive ofNight Sky. Daniel C. Connolly (2016’sColony) is showrunner and executive producer. Jimmy Miller and Sam Hansen are also serving as executive producers.
Initially,Night Skywas namedLightyearsand was to star Ed O’Neill alongside Spacek. But in April 2021he withdrew, and Simmons replaced him for the part. The series was primarily shot in the state of Illinois, in cities such as Woodstock and Chicago, as well as the villages of Wauconda, Island Lake, and Frankfort.
One of the beautiful things about science fiction is that it can perfectly represent mankind’s unrelenting curiosity, which is encapsulated perfectly in Irene in this trailer. Rather than calling the police and hiding in fear, she pushes forward and makes her own discoveries. This paints a promising message for the viewers of what could come fromNight Sky, that no matter how old you get you can still ask questions and discover new things.
Meanwhile, Franklin, being more cautious over these dangerous new things, stays with his wife, which gives us a teaser into the more beautiful and dramatic elements to the show. If you’re a fan of the more somber and dramatic science fiction stories,Night Skymight be right up your alley.
