With HBO recently setting an April 23 premiere date forSilicon Valley Season 4, the network has now released the first trailer, which starts off with quite the bombshell. The network has also released a new photo, which features starsKumail Nanjiani,Zach Woods,Thomas Middleditch,Jimmy O. Yang,T.J. MillerandJosh Brener. The trailer opens with Richard Hendricks (Thomas Middleditch) announcing to his Pied Piper co-workers that he’s quitting, and taking the name of the company he helped build with him.
HBO hasn’t issued an updated synopsis for this season quite yet, but it seems from this trailer that when Richard Hendricks left the company formerly known as Pied Piper,Zach Woods' Jared Dunn has come with him. We also see that, while Richard is adamant about keeping the Pied Piper name, his co-workers could care less. Richard reveals in this trailer that he has to build something else teasing his plans to create a “New Internet,” along with another scene where Monica (Amanda Crew) says that Richard sounds like a “crazy person.” The brief trailer ends with Richard exclaiming that, “It’s real,” and while it isn’t clear what that is quite yet, it’s big enough to get both Richard and Jared letting out some hearty and joyful screams in their garage.

The news that Richard is quitting is quite surprising, and it isn’t quite clear what brought this on after the events of theSilicon Valley Season 3finale, whenT.J. Miller’s Erlich andJosh Brener’s Big Head put in a last-minute bid that saved the company from Gavin Belson (Matt Ross). Pied Piper will now be moving forward as a video chat company, after starting as a file compression company, but it remains to be seen what Richard’s new company will be, and if it will be a competitor to the new video chat company, or become something else entirely.
Silicon Valleytakes a comic look at the modern-day epicenter of the high-tech gold rush, where the people most qualified to succeed are the least capable of handling success. A collaboration betweenMike JudgeandAlec Berg, the show starsThomas Middleditch,T.J. Miller,Zach Woods,Kumail Nanjiani,Martin Starr,Josh Brener,Amanda Crew,Matt Ross,Suzanne CryerandJimmy O. Yang.Mike Judge,Alec Berg,Michael RotenbergandTom Lassallyserve as executive producers. The show is created byMike Judge&John Altschuler&Dave Krinsky.
While the show returns to its normal Sunday 10 PM ET time slot, it remains to be seen what will serve as its lead in. For the past few years,Game of Throneshas anchored HBO’s Sunday night lineup at 9 PM ET, followed bySilicon Valleyat 10 PM,Veepat 10:30 PM andLast Week Tonight with John Oliverat 11 PM ET.Veepwill actually debut a week earlier on Sunday, April 16 at 10:30 PM ET, but this year, the spring Sunday lineup will be withoutGame of Thrones, since it has been moved to a summer debut. Now that both of thecomedy seriesare well established, they likely won’t suffer without a monster hit likeGame of Thronesas their lead-in, but we’ll have to see how both shows fare this season.
