Creepshowis coming back soon as an episodic TV series for Shudder, and Adrienne Barbeau has been cast for a role in the premiere episode. Series producer Greg Nicotero will be directing the episode, which is based on a short story by Stephen King. Barbeau will be in good company as she’s joiningSawseries star Tobin Bell andBetter Call Saul’s Giancarlo Esposito in the cast. “I was thrilled when Greg asked me to join theCreepshowworld once again,” Barbeau said about her casting in the series. “And then working with Tobin and Giancarlo, with Greg as our director, well, that was the icing on the cake - no, not that cake. Oh, you know what I mean.”
In the original 1982 movie from writer Stephen King and director George A. Romero,Adrienne Barbeauappeared in a segment called “The Crate.” Based on a short story of the same name by King, it tells the story of a mysterious wooden box found at a college hidden beneath a staircase. When the box is opened by a janitor, a carnivorous creature pulls him inside, consuming the poor man whole. Seeing an opportunity, a college professor (Hal Holbrook) feeds his obnoxious, drunken wife Wilma (Barbeau) to the creature in the crate. Every segment inCreepshowcan be considered very memorable, but “The Crate” is personal favorite for many fans of the movie.
This won’t be the only franchise Barbeau will soon be returning to. Longtime fans of the actress will also appreciate howshe is coming back to the Swamp Thing franchiseas well. In 1982, the same yearCreepshowwas released, Barbeau had also starred in Wes Craven’s live-actionSwamp Thingmovie. Starring alongside Ray Wise and Dick Durock, Barbeau played protagonist Alice Cable. It has since been announced she has been cast for a role in the upcomingSwamp ThingTV series for the DC Universe streaming service. The premiere of that series now feels just around the corner, as it was recently announced the show will premiere on July 20, 2025.
