Doctor Whois finally coming back in just a couple of months after a very long break.Peter Capaldiwill once again be taking charge of the Tardis this season, following his return in the most recentDoctor WhoChristmas special. Sadly, it was recently announced thatDoctor Whoseason 10 is going to be his last as the Doctor, so all eyes are on who will be taking over next season. ShowrunnerChris Chibnallhas opened up a bit recently on how they will becasting the roleand the endless possibilities that a new Doctor represents.

Chris Chibnall, who also serves as the showrunner for BBC’sBroadchurch, will be taking over forSteven Moffat, who is leavingDoctor Whoafter season 10. He recently talked with thehttp://www.telegraph.co.uk/tv/2025-06-13/chris-chibnall-interview-not-using-rape-plot-device-broadchurch/Telegraphabout their approach to casting the new Doctor and according to him, it is going to start with the script. Here is what he had to say about it.

“We’ll cast the role in the traditional way: write the script, then go and find the best person for that part in that script. You couldn’t go out and cast anabstract idea…The creative possibilities are endless, but I have a very clear sense of what we’re going to do, without even knowing who’s going to play the part.”

Doctor Whoseason 11 is going to be a big change for the long-running series in a lot of ways. Not only will a new showrunner be taking over, but anew Doctorwill be coming in at the same time.Peter Capaldiis the 12th person to play the character in the history of the beloved sci-fi series but after three seasons, he decided it was time to move on. Here is what he had to say to BBC Radio 2 when he made the announcement thatDoctor Whoseason 10 would be his last.

“The big thing about it for me is that it (the new series of Doctor Who) will be my last…I feel sad, I love Doctor Who. It’s a fantastic program to work on and it’s been a huge pleasure to work with a family. I can’t praise the people I’ve worked with more highly, but I’ve always been somebody that did a lot of different things. I’ve never done one job for three years. This is the first time I’ve done this and I feel it’s sort of time for me to move on to different challenges.”

Even thoughChris Chibnallhas made it pretty clear that they are in the very early stages of the process, that hasn’t prevented anyone from hedging their bets as to who will be taking overTardisduties next. Recently, Ladsbrokes declared thatDoctor StrangeactressTilda Swintonis the current favorite to land the role, going off at 7-2 odds. That would make her the very first female Doctor in the history of the show and there is increased talk ofDoctor Whogoing that direction, even if it isn’tTilda Swintonwho ultimately lands the role. Other names that have been thrown around includeJames Bond star Ben Whishawand formerDoctor WhocompanionBillie Piper.

At the moment, There is no rush for the BBC to announce a replacement forPeter Capaldisince we still have all ofDoctor Whoseason 10 to get through. Still, fans of the series are going to be dying to know whoChris Chibnalland BBC decided to give the power of the Sonic Screwdriver to next, and it seems like we could be in for a bit of a shake up this time around.Doctor Whoseason 10, which will consist of 12 episodes, is set to premiere on BBC April 15.
