Sinnersmight be losing its IMAX screens toThunderbolts*this weekend, but fans will get a chance to see it on the best format possible very soon, as tickets are already on sale for a limited IMAX 70mm re-release in a few weeks. The horror filmhas become a full-blown phenomenon, as positive word of mouth about the film spread over the first two opening weekends, during which it had just a 6% drop at the box office. A large portion of the film’s profits have come from IMAX screens, particularly the much-talked-about 70mm film prints, which director Ryan Coogler hyped up in a must-see video. Despite playing sold-out shows throughout the week, the film is about to leave IMAX screens, but fans who missed it in the ideal format will get another chance in a couple of weeks.
IndieWire reports thatSinnerswill return to IMAX screens on Thursday, May 15, and continue through Wednesday, May 21, playing in all nine theaters that can screen the film in 70mm IMAX prints. Tickets are on sale now for the limited re-release, as well as the film’s standard screenings, which will continue to play for the coming weeks.Sinnerswill then vacate those IMAX screens forMission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning. Here is a list of the nine IMAX theaters to watchSinnerson 70mm film print.

Regarding the re-release, President of Global Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures Jeff Goldstein said in a statement:
“Audiences have spoken and we listened. If ever a film needed to be experienced in this incredible larger-than-life format, it’s ‘Sinners.’ Ryan has delivered a film that has been embraced by fans who appreciate the craftsmanship that goes into creating a film for this screen-filling format and we wanted to give everyone the opportunity to see it — or see it again — in 70mm IMAX.”

‘Sinners’ Demands To Be Seen in IMAX
IMAX screens represented 20% of theSinners' opening weekend gross, and it has been the ideal format for fans to see the movie. Similar toOppenheimerin 2023, some audiences have been holding off on seeing the film to experience it in the much-hyped format, as it has been built up as the better value for one’s money. As audiences have become more hesitant to go to the movies and want to wait for films to hit streaming, IMAX has been a significant selling point for moviegoers, offering an experience that cannot be replicated at home.
‘Sinners’ Has One of the Best Scenes of the Year, and I Can’t Stop Thinking About It
Ryan Coogler’s latest masterwork, ‘Sinners,’ is one of 2025’s best, and its centerpiece might be the best scene in any movie this year.
WithSinnersbeing such an in-demand moviegoing experience, this likely won’t be the only IMAX re-release it gets this year. While the summer movie season will be crowded with films likeHow to Train Your Dragon,Jurassic World: Rebirth,Superman, andThe Fantastic Four: First Stepsall competing for those IMAX screens, during the fall, Warner Bros. might be able to secure another re-release ofSinners. It could undoubtedly be a big play for the Halloween season, particularly as a way to get the movie back in the spotlight as awards season approaches. It feels safe to say Warner Bros. is going to verify thatSinnersgets back to IMAX screens once more after this limited re-release.
