It feels like we are still calming down to some degree from the release ofStar Wars: The Force Awakenslast December. But in just four short months, Disney and Lucasfilm will be giving us another, brand newStar Wars moviein the form ofRogue One: A Star Wars Story. We have still only seen one trailer for the movie, but today the first official TV spot forRogue Onehas surfaced.
There really isn’t any new footage in this 30-second TV spot to speak of. For the most part, it is a very condensed version of the first Teaser that was released forRogue Oneback in April. On the plus side, this does mean that Lucasfilm is ramping up their marketing campaign for the movie and that we will likely be seeing some new footage for the movie soon. We know Darth Vader is in this movie, and we really want to see him in action. Or at least hear him breathing.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Storyis a prequel movie that takes place in the time between the events ofRevenge of the SithandA New Hopeand tells the story of how the Rebels got their hands on the plans for the Empire’s planet destroying weapon, theDeath Star. The band of Rebels tasked with stealing the plans is being led byJyn Erso, who has been described as a “Joan of Arc” character by Lucasfilm PresidentKathleen Kennedy. She is accompanied by a mixed bag of rag-tag Rebels who are trying to secure the plans so that the Rebel Alliance can destroy the Empire’s new, deadly weapon.
This firstStar Wars spin-offmovie is going to introduce a bunch of new characters who are being played by some top notch talent. The cast includesFelicity Jones,Mads Mikkelsen,Ben Mendelsohn,Alan Tudyk,Diego Luna,Donnie Yen,Wen JiangandForest Whitaker, who is playing Saw Gerrera fromStar Wars: The Clone Wars. The movie is directed byGodzillahelmerGareth Edwards. The script was written byChris Weitz, with the story byGary WhittaandJohn Knoll.
There was quite a bit of disappointment a few weeks ago coming out ofStar WarsCelebration when Disney and Lucasfilm decided not to drop a new, full-length trailer forRogue One. They did show a new, exclusive piece of footage that was put together for those in attendance, which reportedly, finally showed Darth Vader, or his reflection at least. This TV spot at least means we should be expecting that new trailer sooner rather than later.
