The actress beat out over 100 others for the highly-coveted role, including contenders such as Gaite Jansen,Lucy FryandGugu Mbatha-Raw.
The story, which was written byJoby Harold(Knights of the Round Table), offers a revisionist take on the belovedRobin Hoodtale. The plot follows the title character, who returns home from fighting in The Crusades. He discovers that his beloved Sherwood Forest has become a den of corruption, leading him to form a band of merry outlaws to take back hishomeland.Taron Egertonentered talks for the title role back in August, but his deal is now finalized.

Production has been pushed back slightly, due toTaron Egerton’s commitment to 20th Century Fox’sKingsman 2. Now it seems the issue has been resolved, with the actor scheduled to shootKingsman 2first, and then go right intoproductiononRobin Hood: Originsnext summer.
