Avengers: EndgamestarRobert Downey Jr.has taken on his next big role; combating climate change with groundbreaking technology. The global megastar, known best for his work as Iron Man, aka Tony Stark, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has announced that he is starting a new organization called The Footprint Coalition, which is set to launch by April 2020. The goal of the organization? To clean up the planet using artificial intelligence. RDJ is truly embracing his inner Tony Stark in the real world.
The announcement came as part of Robert Downey Jr.’s keynote speech at Amazon’s Re:Mars conference in Las Vegas. The event, which stands for “Machine learning, Automation, Robotics and Space”, featured a variety of different speakers who discussed the benefits of highlyadvanced robotics, specifically artificial intelligence. While the 54-year-old actor didn’t go into specifics about how his new organization would accomplish its goal, it sounds rather ambitious. Here’s what he had to say.
“Between robotics andnanotechnology, we could clean up the planet significantly, if not totally, in 10 years.”
The idea for the organization was hatched after a talk Robert Downey Jr. had with a group of experts. He made a very in-character quip saying, “God I love experts. They’re like Wikipedia with character defects.” Not one to just shift blame, Downey was also more than willing to take his share of the credit for being part of the problem.
“I have this quiet sense of crisis. I’m a one-mancarbon footprint nightmarecolossus … [but] I want to change.”
Robert Downey Jr. didn’t mention who is going to be involved or who may be investing in this new venture. Though, there are surely people who would be interested.Climate changeexperts, scientists and researchers around the globe are predicting an increasingly bleak situation for humanity of the human impact on the environment isn’t seriously dampened. A website for The Footprint Coalition was launched but, for the time being, it just offers a contact form and the following message.
