Action movie superstarVin Dieselhas teased an imminent, and long-awaited, update regarding his highly anticipated science fiction sequel,Riddick 4. Officially titledRiddick: Furya, the sci-fi action follow-up will explore the mysterious origins of Diesel’s title character, who started life as a mysterious convict way, way back in the 2000 action sci-fi outingPitch Black. Since then, Riddick has become so much more, with the lore being expanded in a pair of sequels,The Chronicles of RiddickandRiddick, with Diesel hoping (and teasing) that the world ofRiddick will become his next major franchisefollowing the conclusion of theFast and Furiousseries.

Diesel has now taken to social media to share an image of Riddick showing off his shiny eyeballs, teasing that something is “Incoming…” While that’s all he’s offered for now, withRiddick: Furyahavingcommenced filming back in August last year, it stands to reason that we could soon get our first official images from the sequel, or even a trailer.

“Riddick finally returns to his home world, a place he barely remembers and one he fears might be left in ruins. But there he finds other Furyans fighting for their existence against a new monster. And some of these Furyans are more like Riddick than he could have ever imagined.”

‘Riddick: Furya’ Will See a Return to Riddick’s Homeworld

First introduced 25 years ago in the acclaimed sci-fi horror outingPitch Black, Riddick remains one ofVin Diesel’s most beloved characters and franchises. While the first movie tells an isolated story of a crew whose spaceship crash lands on a planet inhabited by nocturnal monsters, things changed with the sequel, 2004’sThe Chronicles of Riddick, which vastly expands the series into an intergalactic sci-fi epic, transforming the character from an enigmatic criminal we all assumed was human to the last surviving member of an alien race known as Furyans.

Unlike its predecessor, the follow-up was met with largely negative reviews as well as being a disappointment at the box office. Thus, 2013’sRiddicktook the series back to its more humble roots, telling another smaller, more insular tale as the character finds himself once again stranded on a dangerous planet and evading a lethal group of mercenaries. Diesel has wanted to make a fourth outing ever since, with returning director David Twohy having previously teased howthe sequel will explore Riddick’s past.

“Our legion fans have demanded it for years, and now we’re finally ready to honor their call to action with Riddick: Furya. My collaboration with Vin and One Race has spanned 20 fruitful years, as together we’ve created three movies, two video games, an anime production, and motion comics for the internet. This new big-screen event will see a return to Riddick’s homeworld, where we finally get to explore Riddick’s genesis.”
