There really aren’t fans quite likeStar Warsfans for any other franchise. Sure, other franchises have feverish fans, but the elaborate and time consuming, yet very loving ways thatStar Warsfans decide to show their fandom is truly unmatched. A brand new example of that fandom has surfaced in the form of an insanely detailed infographic that covers all ofStar Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope. And we do mean all of it.
The infographic can be found atswanh.netand was created by an illustrator named Martin Panchaud. The infographic serves as a totally encompassing visual adaptation of the originalStar Warsfilm. The finished product measures an impressive 123 meters in length and was created by Panchaud in Adobe Illustrator. He first came up with the idea last year and then hit the ground running with it.

“I first came up with the idea for this project in January 2015 and I started working on it beside my contract works. All together it took me approximately 1000 hours and I finished it in May 2016.”
Scrolling through the graphic, it is very easy to see where those 1000 hours went. Anyone who has seenA New Hopewill see that literally every character, every line and every scene is represented in this one crazy detailed piece of fan art. The final product was made up of 157 different images Panchaud made in Illustrator and then pieced them all together for the final product. Though the project is about a cinematic classic, Panchaud took some inspiration from a very different and old school form of storytelling.
“This long ribbon reminds the ancient Chinese script rolls that had to be rolled in and rolled out simultaneously in order to be read. I like this stretch between ages, cultures, and technologies.”
Theoriginal Star Warsrecently celebrated its 39th anniversary from when it was originally released in theaters and a lot of coolStar Warsstuff surfaced as a result. Lucasfilm andStar WarscreatorGeorge Lucashave a long standing history of embracing fan art and fan created content that use the film’s characters and imagery. Somewhat surprisingly, even after Disney purchased Lucasfilm back in 2012, there has not been a crackdown on things like this infographic orStar Wars Uncut, the fan film that rehashes all ofA New Hopewith totally different 15 second clips.
Those who have seenA New Hopemore times than they care to count will definitely appreciate being able to relive the film in this entirely new way and they will definitely appreciate that crazy attention to detail that Panchaud put into it. In addition to the graphic, swanh.net has a great section on the making of process for the infographic, which is almost as interesting as the finished product itself.
