Invinciblefans have a lot to celebrate this morning, as even though Season 4 ofPrime Video’s hit animated superhero seriesisn’t expected to return until next year, it’s just been renewed for Season 5. Created by Robert Kirkman and based on the comic series of the same name he brought to life with Cory Walker and Ryan Ottley,Invinciblefollows the exploits of young Mark Grayson, a teenager whose father happens to be the most powerful superhero on the planet. As he comes to terms with the emergence of his own powers, he discovers his father’s legacy may not be as heroic as it seems.

Per Deadline, Prime Video has officially given the go-ahead forInvincibleSeason 5, which was a no-brainer when you consider that Season 3 became their most watched animation season of all time. It recently scored a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance (Steven Yeun), marking the second year in a row it has been nominated in that category, following Sterling K. Brown’s nomination last year.

The Perfect ‘Invincible’ Spin-off Is an Obvious Choice

Once ‘Invincible’ ends, Prime Video should adapt Robert Kirkman’s spin-off series ‘Guarding the Globe.’

Starring the likes of not only Yeun but Sandra Oh, J.K. Simmons, Seth Rogen, Walton Goggins, Gillian Jacobs, Jason Mantzoukas, Zazie Beetz, Grey DeLisle, and Zachary Quinto, Prime Video also announced that Matthew Rhys will join in on the fun in the upcoming season. No stranger to voice acting, the formerPerry Masonstar recently appeared as Nite Owl in the two-part animatedWatchmenmovie, and as Ghost in John Krasinski’sIF. He also took on the role of Riley Greene in the animated HBO Max hitGremlins, and has appeared inBoJack Horseman,Archer, andThe Wingfeather Saga.

‘Invincible’ Has Only Gotten Better With Time

Premiering back in 2021,Invinciblehas been a big hit across the board thus far, with each season scoring high ratings on Rotten Tomatoes. The latest, Season 3, earned a 100% score from critics, and a 93% from fans, proving that the animated series continues to impress, andhasn’t lost any of its staying power. Called “simultaneously sweet and searing,” critic Timothy Lee noted that “Invincibleis proof that superhero stories can still be exciting as long as interesting characters, passion, creativity, and real stakes are at the forefront.” John Kirk from Original Cin also had nothing but good things to say about Season 3, adding:

“As comic book adaptations go, you can’t go wrong with this reliable and source-faithful series. With solid characters and engaging adventure, it’s a resilient show that will go the distance for any lover of comics and superhero adventure.”

Fans were equally thrilled withInvincibleSeason 3, with some calling it “the best season so far,” and others, like Rotten Tomatoes user Sarthi S, adding that it “builds to a breathtaking finale that showcases the show’s emotional and visual highs.” While some admit that they’re not a fan of the animation style, they’re willing to overlook that thanks toInvincible’sincredible storytelling and characters.
