Outlanderfans, rejoice! Droughtlander is finally over! Well, sort of. The eighth and final season of the STARZ series isn’t slated to premiere until early 2026, but the prequel,Outlander:Blood of My Blood, arrives this month, and it looks amazing. Based on Diana Gabaldon’s characters rather than any particular book, the newest addition to theOutlanderuniverse is set to follow Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire’s (Caitríona Balfe) parents through their own epic love stories, one of which viewers know next to nothing about.
Because the newest series isn’t beholden to a specific book,Blood of My Bloodcan expand in a way thatOutlandercouldn’t. By no means is the series going to unravel what viewers already know, but it will certainly alter some of the things many of us thought we knew about Jamie and Claire’s parents, including a venture through the stones. After all, if Claire isable to travel through time, wouldn’t it make sense that her parents could as well?

The stories fans thought they knew are going to unfold very differently. Initially believed to have died when Claire was a child, it turns out that her parents, Julia (Hermione Corfield) and Henry (Jeremy Irvine), actually traveled to 1714 Scotlandthrough the stones at Craigh Na Dun. As such, it suggests they may have crossed paths with Jamie’s parents, Ellen (Harriet Slater) and Brian (Jamie Roy), which prompts a whole host of questions. So, clear your schedules, becauseBlood of My Bloodis right around the corner, and you don’t want to miss a second of it.
‘Blood of My Blood’ Will Expand in a Way ‘Outlander’ Couldn’t
Which Means Viewers Are in for an Epic and Unexpected Journey
Unlike its predecessor,Blood of My Bloodisn’t based on any particular Diana Gabaldon book. Instead, it is based on the characters that exist on the periphery within theOutlanderworld. Given how little viewers know about Jamie and Claire’s parents, there’s no way for audiences to determine how the prequel will ultimately play out. Sure, we’ve heard stories about Ellen and Brian, and we think we know what happened to Julia and Henry, but if the trailer is any indication, it’s clear we don’t know anything at all.
With a relatively blank canvas,Blood of My Bloodwill be able to expand in a way thatOutlanderhas been unable to do. As a result, viewers are in for an epic and unexpected journey. That isn’t to say it’ll venture away fromwhat makes the world ofOutlanderso special, but without a book to adapt or a rigid storyline to follow, the prequel series can develop something completely new and exciting for fans to devour. As is the case with most prequels, the characters’ journeys will be more compelling than their inevitable destination. Plus, Diana Gabaldon is a consulting producer on the show, which means the heart of theseOutlandercharacters will remain intact.

‘Blood of My Blood’ Alters What Viewers Thought They Already Knew
And Prompts a Whole Host of New Questions That Need Answers
WhileBlood of My Bloodwon’t change what is true in theOutlanderuniverse, it certainly will challenge what viewers assumed to be true, especially regarding the fate of Claire’s parents. This raises many questions given how little we know about their deaths. If Julia and Henry didn’t die when Claire was young, then what really happened to them? If they traveled to the past, why didn’t they ever go back to Claire? Or did they return, but only after Claire had grown up? Does this mean there could bea crossover betweenBlood of My BloodandOutlander? After all, Roger (Richard Rankin) does encounter his late father while traveling back to the past to rescue Jemmy (Blake Johnston-Miller), so such a scenario isn’t impossible. Nevertheless, the new series has a host of questions to answer, and fans are ready.
Unlike Julia and Henry’s love story, audiences know a little more about Ellen and Brian, or at least we think we do. A few highlights of their story have been told throughoutOutlander, and we know how each of them ultimately dies, but it’s clear fans don’t know their full journey. Furthermore,Blood of My Bloodis likely to throw fans a few curveballs, whichwill alter what they had assumed was trueabout Jamie’s parents. Given the show’s premise, Julia, Henry, Ellen, and Brian clearly cross paths at some point, which opens the door for some compelling stories viewers never imagined were possible before the prequel. So, clear your schedule becauseBlood of My Bloodis all but guaranteed to be your next obsession.
