The originalAmerican Idolcrew is getting back together, as former judges Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, and Randy Jackson are reuniting forThe Kelly Clarkson Show. Of course, as Clarkson is the first winner of the singing competition series, the reunion will include her as well. For longtimeIdolfans who have fond memories of watching the very first season, this special reunion is certainly looking to be a must-see television experience. The series will officially make its television debut on Sept. 9, so mark those calendars now.

American Idolfirst premiered on Fox all the way back in 2002. The concept of the singing competition series is to invite aspiring singers from all across the United States to showcase their skills in front of judges from the music business, with the most impressive singers moving on to the finals of the competition. Fan voting would then take over to determine which contestants would move on to the next round until there was only one singer left standing. Famously, Clarkson was the first winner of the show, obtaining the recording contract at the end of season one. While the success of subsequentIdolwinners has varied, Clarkson has done very well as a musician, selling millions of records and winning multiple Grammy Awards.

While viewership forAmerican Idolwould dwindle over the years, most everyone can remember the original three judges on the series. Considered the most cruel of the three isSimon Cowell, who is known for his scathing quips about the lackluster performances of wannabeIdolcontestants. It just wasn’t an episode ofAmerican Idolwithout Simon making someone cry. His kinder cohorts include ’80s pop star Paula Abdul and music managerRandy Jackson. The trio was basically a dream team, making the series far more entertaining than it would have been without their inclusion. All three judges wound up serving on the series for eight seasons together, with each having since departed the show.

Clarkson has found plenty of success since her time onIdolwith her music career, but she’s often been working in movies and on TV as well. While one of her her first movie projectsFrom Justin to Kellywas infamously a dud, Clarkson has since lent her voice to animated characters in movies likeUglyDollsandTrolls World Tour. She has been far busier on television, often appearing as herself in a wide variety of shows. In 2018, Clarkson joinedThe Voiceas a talent coach, and given all of this experience, the singer’s transition into a talk show host shouldn’t be too much of a stretch for the modern pop star.

The Kelly Clarkson Showwill premiere on Sept. 9 on NBC. In anticipation of the upcoming series, Clarkson recently shared a mini tour of the set, insisting she was doing it on her own accord as she was that excited.
