Calling all fans ofThe Office! After much anticipation, the official trailerfor the new spinoff seriesThe Paperhas finally arrived. The same documentary crew that took us inside Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch has found a new subject: The Toledo Truthteller, a historic (but struggling) newspaper located in Toledo, Ohio. While manyOfficefans were hesitant aboutThe Paper, the first-look trailer has made some quite optimistic about the new Peacock series, which is set to premiere in September. This group of reporters have their own awkward, yet unique, flair about them, making them stand out from the characters we came to know and love.Officecreator Greg Daniels is returning for the spinoff alongsideNathan for Youco-creator Michael Koman — and if you’re still missing the Dunder Mifflin crew, you’ll be happy to know that one fan-favorite character from the American version ofThe Officewill make a cameo in the upcoming spinoff.
While watching the trailer forThe Paper, fans quickly noticed a familiar face among the Toledo Truthteller staff. During the teaser, the camera cuts toOscar Nuñez’s character, Oscar Martinez, who isn’t employed at the Truthteller. As the camera crew approaches him, Oscar quickly gets up and says, “Not again,” clearly getting flashbacks to his time at Dunder Mifflin. “I’m not agreeing to any of this,” Oscar says as he leaves his desk and storms off.

Nuñez played the outspoken accountant for all nine seasons of the U.S. version ofThe Office. The 66-year-old actor was a part of the main cast, alongsideSteve Carell(Michael Scott), Rainn Wilson (Dwight Schrute), John Krasinski (Jim Halpert), Jenna Fischer (Pam Beesly) and more. InThe Officeseries finale, Oscar expresses his desire to pursue politics, and he announces that he’s running for a State Senate seat in Pennsylvania. However, in the spinoff, it appears that he’s returned to being an accountant, and he’s clearly left Pennsylvania because the Toledo Truthteller is located in Ohio. So what happened to make Oscar return to accounting? Did he lose the election? Hopefully, fans will find out more about Oscar’s return inThe Paperbecause we aredyingto know.
Are Other Original Cast Members from ‘The Office’ Returning for the New Spinoff?
For now, Oscar Nuñez is the only confirmed cast member fromThe Officereturning forThe Paper. However, fans shouldn’t rule out the possibility of another staff member from Dunder Mifflin making a brief cameo at the Toledo Truthteller. In May, John Krasinski was asked byExtraif he’d be open to making an appearance in the spinoff series. To that, theOfficealum simply answered:
“If they ask me, I’m in.”

Could fans expect a visit from their favorite regional manager? Unfortunately, they shouldn’t get their hopes up too high because Steve Carell, who played thebeloved Michael Scott for seven seasons onThe Office, didn’t sound too keen on returning for the spinoff series when he talked toThe Hollywood Reporterin 2024. When asked about reprising his character inThe Paper, Carell said:
“I will be watching but I will not be showing up. It’s just a new thing and there’s really no reason for my character to show up in something like that."

However, Carell did share his excitement for the project, and he’s eager to see Domhnall Gleeson step into the new lead role of Ned Sampson, the new editor-in-chief of the Toledo Truthteller, who steps in to try and save the struggling newspaper. While appearing onThe Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallonlast year, Carell shared that Gleeson is an “excellent actor” who is perfect for the role. He went on to share that Gleeson contacted him before signing on to doThe Paper. “He actually called me and asked, you know, ‘Should I do this? Is this something… Did you enjoy it?’ I said ‘Of course.'”
The Paperwill feature a slew of new, fresh faces, including Sabrina Impacciatore as Esmeralda, Chelsea Frei as Mare, Melvin Gregg as Detrick, Ramona Young as Nicole, Gbemisola Ikumelo as Adelola, Alex Edelman as Adam and Tim Key as Ken.

The first four episodes ofThe Paperwill be released on Peacock on Jul 10, 2025. The remaining episodes will premiere every Thursday after that until July 13, 2025.
