In a franchise that has long catered to its hoards of die-hard enthusiasts, the recently released Disney+ seriesObi-Wan Kenobimight represent the absolute peak of fan service in theStar Warsextended universe. Fans have demanded the return of Ewan McGregor’s beloved Obi-Wan Kenobi since the character had what were formerly his last hurrahs at the end of 2005’sStar Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith.
At the end ofRevenge of the Sith, a film that manyStar Warsfans felt was the best installment in the controversial prequel trilogy, Obi-Wan Kenobi is forced into a fight with his Padawan, Hayden Christensen’s Anakin Skywalker. The two lightsaber aficionados flip and fly over the raging lava rivers of the volcanic planet Mustafar. When Obi-Wan gains the higher ground, a near-insurmountable advantage in a lightsaber battle, Anakin refuses to concede, forcing Obi-Wan to rend limbs from his long-time partner.
Obi-Wan Kenobifocuses on the character’s life after his time fighting in the Clone Wars. Forced into exile at the end ofRevenge of the Sithby Order 66, a law put into effect by Ian McDiarmid’s General Supreme Chancellor Palpatine that sought to end the Jedi, Obi-Wan now lives in hiding on the desert planet Tattooine to watch over a young Luke Skywalker. However, the Jedi’s plans change when young Leia Organa (Vivien Lyra Blair) is taken by Empire Inquisitors.

A Falsely Promised Darth Maul
Fans of theStar Warsextended universe have been hoping for Darth Maul to reappear in the franchise for some time now. This desire was made all the more intense by the fact that Ray Park’sdouble-bladed lightsaber-weilding, demonic-faced Maul was initially slated to appear in the series. There were even scripts written that included the character. However, the show’s director, Deborah Chow (Marvel’s Jessica Jones, The Man in the High Castle), noted that the inclusion of both Darth Maul and Darth Vader as villains in a single season ofObi-Wan Kenobimight have made the season’s storylines a touch cluttered. Additionally, the director shied away from including the character in this live-actionStar Warsseries because Obi-Wan and Darth Maul had already had an action-packed meetup in the popular animated seriesStar Wars Rebels.

There are plenty of reasons to want Darth Maul to appear in apotential season two ofObi-Wan Kenobi. Darth Maul and Obi-Wan Kenobi have had a long and storied history throughout theStar Warsextended universe. During their last meeting in a live-action film, Darth Maul brutally murdered Obi-Wan’s mentor, Liam Neeson’s Qui-Gon Jinn. In retaliation, Obi-Wan literally chopped Darth Maul in half, which may lead some moviegoers to wonder how the character could return.
However, those who have religiously consumed the bulk ofStar Warscontent know that Darth Maul has considerably forced capabilities and is more than capable of surviving a measly bifurcation.
Temuera Morrison as Boba Fett
Boba Fett has been one of the most omnipresent characters in the entireStar Warscinematic universe. His first on-screen appearance came almost forty years ago, in 1983’sThe Empire Strikes Back. In the film, Boba Fett is a bounty hunter hired by Darth Vader to hunt down the original series' protagonist as he gallivanted about the galaxy in Han Solo’s Millennium Falcon.

Though Fett ends the original trilogy being slowly consumed by a multi-tentacled, carnivorous creature called the Sarlacc, he somehow survives. A series following the post-Empire activities of Boba Fett, the aptly namedThe Book of Boba Fett, was released on Disney+ in December 2021.
Interestingly enough, Boba Fett has already been seen onObi-Wan Kenobi. BeforeStar Warsfans start to fear that they missed Fett’s classic armor, it should be noted that the bounty hunter himself did not appear. Rather, there was acameo by Temuera Morrison, the actor who plays the character in theStar Warsuniverse, in the second episode ofObi-Wan Kenobi. Cameo aside, the bounty hunter is still out there, and though the galaxy is large, there is definitely a possibility that Boba Fett and Obi-Wan could cross paths in a potential season two.
Obi-Wan Kenobiwas an absolute treat forStar Warsenthusiasts everywhere. In the series, as well as several otherStar Warsseries that have been released in recent years, there were glimpses of fan-favorite characters. Ifthe series gets a season two, the possibility for more beloved characters to appear only increases.
