Signs of Namor theSub-Mariner and his underwater kingdom showing up inBlack Panther: Wakanda Forevercontinue to grow. The Avenging Son was widely believed to be the big baddie in the sequel, and it has long been speculated that Tenoch Huerta has been cast in the coveted role. Interestingly, Huerta’s name is listed on theWakanda Forever’sIMDb page, but no role is given. MCU is getting closer and closer to addressing a sliver of rumors and has now seeminglyreleased the first look at the Atlanteanswith an image of Namor’s rival, Attuma. Merchandise for the movie is circulating online featuring Attuma, an Atlantean in Marvel Comics, with blue skin and an ancient warrior style of armor and weapons.

In the comics, Attuma is the ruler of a barbarian-like tribe of Atlanteans who were banished from Atlantis and the blue skin may be reminiscent of the Kree aliens. However, it is doubtful Namor, the half-Atlantean/half-mutant, will sport a similar look since he has never had blue-tinted skin. Marvel fans are expressing their excitement after seeing the promo art. One fan wrote:

The People of Wakanda Must Fight Without Their King

Despite Wakanda’s advanced technology, Namor could be a force to be reckoned with because of his power. Possessing aquatic and superhuman strength, Namor has fought both with and against mankind. Attuma, the nomadic warlord, is usually depicted as the enemy of Namor, has a resistance to physical injury and swims at a high rate of speed. Whatever the conflict is in the film, T’Challa’s absence will open the door for Shuri, Okoye, M’Baku and others to step up, especially if there is war between the vibranium-rich nation of Wakanda and the Atlanteans. Plot secrecy has been airtight, but fans should likely expect more hints and reveals by the time the official trailer drops.

For years, Marvel has not been able to make a Namor movie due to Universal Pictures owning the rights since the 1990s. Reprising their roles in theBlack Panthersequel are Lupita Nyong’o (Nakia), Letitia Wright (Shuri), Danai Gurira (OKoye), Martin Freeman (Everett K. Ross), Winston Duke (M’Baku), Angela Bassett (Ramonda), and Daniel Kaluuya (W’Kabi).Black Panther: Wakanda Foreveris due in theaters on June 12, 2025.
