It is rare for a TV show to land a 100% Rotten Tomatoes score that sticks, but aNetflixtake on the superhero genre,Supacell, was one of those rare projects that did everything right. Although it took a while for Season 2 to be greenlit by the streamer, fans finally learned the fate of the show in August 2024, but since then, updates have been scarce. Thanks toRadio Times, however, we have a slightly better idea of what to expect from the next season.

Supacellwas created and written by Rapman (Andrew Onwubolu), and stars Tosin Cole, Adelayo Adedayo, Josh Tedeku, Nadine Mills, Eric Kofi-Abrefa, Calvin Demba, Ghetts, Digga D, and Eddie Marsan. The show doesn’t tell a conventional superhero story that plays out in Marvel and DC movies, and that led to an incredibly well-received first season. You can check out the official synopsis below.

Tosin Cole in ‘Supacell’

“In South London, a group of normal people suddenly develop superpowers, and the only apparent connection between them is that they are all Black; as they deal with the impact of their powers on their daily lives, one man must bring them together.”

During an interview withRTon the BAFTA Red Carpet, Rapman said of the second season:

“It gets dark, that’s all I can say! It gets really, really dark. If you followed season one and you saw how things ended, the emotions are just… everything’s running higher now.”

‘Supacell’ Delivered a New Group of Superheroes

Supacellis a series that dropped on Netflix with very little fanfare, but itbecame an instant word-of-mouth hit, and scored a rarely seen perfect Rotten Tomatoes score. Audiences were less convinced by the series' overall potential to deliver something truly new to a genre that has been massively overcooked in the last decade, but a 70% Popcornmeter score was still respectable.

While renewals for a second season have often been hard to come by for new shows on Netflix, Rapman set out his stall early with the streamer, laying out a play for at least three seasons from the start. Ahead of Season 2’s confirmation he said:

“I told them that I want three seasons. I suppose we have to see how season 1 performs. But I know I’ve very much made clear that I want to do three seasons minimum. I’ve got a three-season story in my head. [I’m] not saying it can’t go over. But right now I know where it goes to. I know where… what the story is from up to season 3.”

Thankfully, the renewal came through and that plan in Rapman’s head has the chance to continue on screen. Whether that will extend to his third season and beyond is something yet to be seen, but it seems that he certainly has a plan for where he wants to take the series if Netflix will allow him.
