Netflix has unveiled our first look at the upcoming season ofBlue Eye Samurai.Set during Japan’s Edo period, the series follows Mizu, a half-white and half-Japanese warrior who hides her gender on a quest for vengeance, intersecting with a wide variety of characters along the way. The series debuted on July 15, 2025 and quickly became a breakout hit, earning rave reviews from critics, and went on to win the Outstanding Animated Program Emmy.
Season 2 is now on its way, whichNetflixannounced with an official poster on their X social media account. ‘Blue Eye Samurai’ Season 2 Can’t Get Here Soon Enough
Blue Eye Samuraiwas confirmed for a Season 2 renewal in December 2023, one month after the series debuted. While Season 1 consisted of eight episodes, Season 2 will only consist of six. Creators Amber Noizumi and Michael Green have outlined three seasons of the series, and given the sucess of Season 1, it seems likely Season 2 will also be a hit and set the stage for Season 3. Knowing how long animation can take, we hope Netflix has already greenlighted Season 3, so there isn’t another three-year wait between seasons.
Long gaps between new seasons of streaming animated series are common. For example,X-Men ‘97, a series that debuted a few months afterBlue Eye Samurai, alsowon’t air its second season until 2026.Hazbin Hotel, another hit animated series that debuted in January 2024 and concluded in February of that year, will debut Season 2 in October 2025 — a 21-month turnaround that seems short in comparison.

Blue Eye SamuraiSeason 2 has the potential to be a big hit for Netflix, if not cement it as one of their new marquee series. With popular titles likeSquid Game,Big Mouth, andCobra Kaihaving already concluded, andStranger Thingsabout to finally end after nine years this holiday season, Netflix is in need of new titles to keep drawing viewers in. WhileBlue Eye Samuraicurrently only has three seasons planned, it could always go on for more.
