In June 2020, Tom Cruise will return to the skies as LT Pete “Maverick” Mitchell for director Joseph Kosinski’sTop Gun: Maverick. The much-anticipated film is a sequel to Cruise’s 1986 hitTop Gundirected by Ridley Scott’s brother Tony Scott and co-starring Kelly McGillis as Charlotte “Charlie” Blackwood, Val Kilmer as LT Tom “Iceman” Kazansky, and Anthony Edwards as Goose. This new film will see the return of Kilmer as Iceman, and Miles Teller will be playing Bradley Bradshaw, the son of Anthony Edwards’s Goose. The new movie is nearing the end of its shoot, and today the young actor talked about how hard it was keeping up with Cruise’s work ethic.

Miles Tellersaid of keeping up with his costar, who is 24 years older than him.

“I’m certainly trying, but it is difficult. Just the volume of it. I’m sure a lot of people can do it for a couple of days or a week, but can you do it month after month after month? There’s been nothing on this film that didn’t take a lot of training to accomplish. I got a masterclass in how to make a movie, and Tom is always thinking of the audience. To work with someone who is so meticulous on every aspect, from the camera to the script to the character to the wardrobe to hair to makeup, literally every detail that guy is dialed in on, and anybody who works with him is fortunate.”

Now I’m no expert on the matter, but what Teller is saying here seems to be right on point with what everyone else says when they work oppositeTom Cruise. The man has endless energy and a death wish to boot when it comes to stuntwork. Meanwhile, Teller is best known for starring in movies such asWhiplashand as Reed Richards / Mister Fantastic in Josh Trank’sFantastic Fourreboot co-starring Michael B. Jordan, Kate Mara, Jamie Bell, and Toby Kebbell.

Teller, Cruise, and Kilmer star inTop Gun: Maverickopposite Glen Powell, Ed Harris, Jon Hamm, Lewis Pullman, andJennifer Connelly as a single motherwho runs a local bar near the Navy base. Manny Jacinto joins them along with Monica Barbaro, Charles Parnell, Jay Ellis, Bashir Salahuddin, Danny Ramirez, Jake Picking, Raymond Lee, and Jean Louisa Kelly. Joseph Kosinski (Tron: Legacy,Oblivion, andOnly the Brave) directs this new film from a screenplay written by Peter Craig, Justin Marks, Eric Warren Singer, and Cruise’sMission: Impossible - Rogue NationandMission: Impossible - Falloutpartner in crime, Christopher McQuarrie based on characters created by Jim Cash and Jack Epps Jr. (Top Gun,The Secret of My Success).

Cruise and McQuarrie produce the flick alongside Jerry Bruckheimer (Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl,Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales), David Ellison (Terminator: Dark Fate, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger (Jack Reacher: Never Go Back).Harold Faltermeyer provides the scorefor this new adventure along with Hans Zimmer, while Claudio Miranda handles the movie’s cinematography, and the footage is edited together by Eddie Hamilton.
