Dexter: Resurrectionhas proven its worth with a perfect 100% score from critics, even with the new show retconning the supposed death ofMichael C. Hall’s killer inDexter: New Blood. It seems that viewers were not the only ones who believed Dexter had made his last kill, as Hall also thought his character had finally met his maker.
Speaking toScreenRant, Hall explained how he felt about the “interesting proposition” of exploring what would happen if the character was “reborn.” Hall said:

“I thought he was dead too, and I think Dexter did too, but some time passed. He wasn’t shot in the head. The possibility always remained that that gunshot didn’t kill him, even though it seemed definitive and it became an increasingly interesting proposition. If it didn’t kill him, what would that look like? How would that change his world? How would it change his approach to being alive, being given a second chance like that? I definitely had misgivings. I mean, it felt like a crazy proposition. Are we going to end it that definitively and then say, actually no, he’s still alive.”
Surprise Mother-: ‘Dexter: Resurrection’ Trailer Reveals Killer Return for Michael C. Hall’s Vigilante
Michael C. Hall is back again as ‘Dexter: Resurrection’ prepares to see the vigilante take down a new collection of killers.
However, the resurrection (a-ha, see what they did there) of Dexter had to be more than just a gimmick, and Hall knew he had to make sure that the survival of the character was “worthwhile.” He added:

“And the key for me to making it feel worthwhile is he’s not just still alive, [but] he’s reborn or has a genuine second chance at life. One that sees him able to put down a lot of what he’s been dragging around. All the collateral damage of his life and [to] reclaim himself in a more kind of streamlined, vital way as a killer. But [he] also experienced a sort of undeniable connection to his human side through a recommitment to his son. And all of that seemed like a worthwhile launching pad for the story to continue.”
‘Dexter: Resurrection’ Is the Best Series of the Franchise
While movies and TV shows that come back years after their original airing often face a struggle against diminishing returns, Dexter’s return – for a second time – has not only delivered strong reviews, but has massively overtakenNew Blood, the original series, and the prequel series,Original Sin, tobecome the highest rated series of the franchise. Considering everyone doubted the need for anotherDexterseries, it seems that things have worked out perfectly for everyone’s favorite killer.
Many fans were happy withDexter: Original Sin’s younger incarnation of the character, played by Patrick Gibson, but there is nothing like the real thing. Hall returns to his iconic role on July 11 when the first two episodes hit Paramount+. Subsequent episodes drop weekly.
