As of right now, a seventhScreamfilm hasn’t been officially announced, but franchise starMelissa Barrerathinks it’s a matter of time before that happens. The previous installment of the series,Scream VI, was a big hit at the box office when it was released in theaters this year. Despite the absence of original final girl Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell),Scream VIbecame the first installment of the series to surpass $100 million at the box office, making it the biggest money-earner of the franchise so far. A sequel seems like a no-brainer given that financial success.

Barrera made her debut in the franchise as Sam Carpenter in last year’sScream, going on to reprise her role for this year’sScream VI. In a recent interview (perNME), the scream queen reflected on becoming a part of the franchise, something that’s been surreal to her as such a big fan of the previous movies. Because she has learned not to base her happiness on how well a film does at the box office, she’s thrilled to be a part of theScreamfamily even without that in mind. Even so, she’s happy to be on the rise with her co-stars from that world, as Barrera explains:

The Cast of Scream 6

“I love these movies and sometimes I can’t even believe I get to be a part of them. But I do feel very fortunate thatScreamcame out afterIn the Heights… In Mexico, I used to work to work – but in the US, I choose projects I’m devastatingly passionate about. ObviouslyScreamhas a fandom, so it’s incredible to be part of that, but I’ve witnessed the other side of the industry. Hollywood is so extreme that you’re able to’t base your happiness on the box office. WithScream, I feel like I’m on the rise with a certain group of people who are going to change the industry for the better.”

More Ghostface Killings Are Inevitable

Barrera isn’t the one who gets to decide ifScream 7happens or not, but she does seem to feel that another movie is inevitable. In fact, she thinks that for as long as the fans continue to enjoyScreamfilms, more sequels will be made. If true, we could be seeing many m ore movies for years to come, given how the franchise is making more money than ever at the box office. On a potential seventh film, Barrera says:

“It would be great to see where Sam’s story goes – there’s so many places it could go and I’m excited to see that. I don’t want to say yes or no to aScream 7movie, although it feels as long as people want Scream movies, they’ll continue to exist.”

She might be right, but for now, fans will have to wait for an official announcement to see what’s next with theScreamseries. Meanwhile, you may streamScream VI on Paramount+.
